| Royal Canin Is Royal Canin just junk food or what?? I have to put Fido on Royal Canin Obesity dog food cause it's the only thing that works making him loose weight and keeping him in the right weight, I read about the ingredients and these are they: Dehydrated poultry meat, wheat, vegetable fibres, beet pulp, maize gluten, wheat gluten, animal fats, hydrolised animal proteins, minerals, psyllium husks and seeds, fish oil, sodium polyphospate, taurine, hydrolised crustaceans (source of glucosamine), L-carnitine, marigold extract (source of lutein), hydrolased cartilage (source of chondroitin). Is this OK ? or is this bad?? I will propably have to have him always on this food cause its the only thing that works to keep him in the right weight (he gets fat even on light dog foods that are suppose to make him loose weight or be in the same weight, I had him on Hill's Light for a month and he gained 2 pounds !) He needs to loose about 3 pounds I think, he's suppose to be 6 kilos and is not 7,7 kilos not sure what it is in pounds.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I feed RC for Yorkshire Terriers and it's very similar to this and Joey's doing well on it. I don't think of it as junk food, but some people call it that because yorkies seem to like it. They assume that just because a food is tasty, it's not nutritious. This is a big understanding in nutrition. Nutritious foods can appeal to our sense of taste and smell. RC knows that Yorkies are fussy eaters and tried to formulate a food that they would enjoy. How is your dog doing on it? Does he have problems with gas, diarrhea, vomiting? How's his coat, is it thick and shiny? Does he have excessive tearing of the eyes? I think these are all indications of how well your dog is doing on a food, and if this food helps him get to his healthy weight that's another bonus.

| Fido has been once on Royal Canin Obesity before, he pooped a bit much but my vet said that was normal on this food. His coat was very fine, he's cottony coated so his fur isnt super shiny normally but it was really good on the RC obesity food ! He was very good on the RC obesity food in all ways nothing bad I can say about it, other than its really really expensive. About 12 kilo's cost 160 dollars of RC obesity food... really expensive but it's the only thing that works on my Fido to make him loose weight so I buy it

| When ever my dogs are getting on the "chunky side" I just decrease whatever food I am feeding them a bit. And I increase the walks and play time. Look for lower calorie treats and such. I have found in the past with cats I have had that putting them on "light diet food" only makes them more hungry or poo more.

| How much are you feeding him? I ask because the bags are often WAY over-estimated and to get weight loss, you simply should just feed less. When Jackson (16lbs -- 7.25 kilos) was eating TOTW (which is 338 kcal/cup) he was eating 1/2 cup per day (along with a tablespoon of wet food, and some treats). The bag recommended he be eating 1 cup - 1 3/4 cup per day and that was just too much! I would simply decrease the food and increase the exercise. With that said, no, I don't think RC is "junk". I think it's a decent brand and if your dog is doing well on it, that is what is important. I am not a fan of some of the ingredients but if it works for Fido, then that the best food for him.

I don't think RC is junk food at all. I personally had to switch Taycie to their RX Limited Ingredient Potato and Rabbit because nothing was working for her severely sensitive system. If she wasn't having stomach issues, her eyes would run and her ears were bright red inside and she would scratch like crazy! There is alot of science behind RC and Taycie is doing wonderfully on it, and receiving much needed relief! I am with Brister.. If it works for your dog stick with it

| I fed RC until Maddie became itchy on it. Fido likes it and is doing well on it so stick with it. I think RC is much better than most pet foods availbale. |
