| Blue Buffalo~Not good news! I went to Lea's Pet Products yesterday to get some food for my other dog Tubby who is eating Fromm as of now. I told the person I was thinking of switching to Blue Buffalo because I heard it's great and I have a $5 off coupon (and Fromm gives Tubby horrible gas-even though I LOVE Fromm). After I told her this her face turned somber and she said she heard a pretty reliable rumor that Blue Buffalo is possibly being sold out to.....PROCTER & GAMBLE!!!! She was very disgusted to say the least because we know what happens when P&G buy out dog food companies....ugh! I found this article about previous companies that have sold out to P&G: Natura Dog Food Ratings - Dropped from 10 Best Dog Food List - Downgraded to 2 Scoops! (if you go down to the bottom and watch the video be careful-it is extremely disturbing). I am going to pray that Blue Buffalo does NOT sell out because it is a great food for furbabies as of now!!! I just wanted you all to know so that if you do buy Blue for your precious furbabies you can keep an eye out on it for when or if they buy it and then make the decision whether or not to quit buying it! I will NEVER buy a dog food product that is made by P&G-EVER!!! I also found this: IamsCruelty.com and this one: Procter & Gamble - SourceWatch I do not have words for how disturbing and disgusting this is. I don't know how old these articles are or if this has stopped but I am so disgusted and disheartened to think that I used to buy this product for my cat and for my dog previously...it just makes me sick to my stomach!!! I will admit that I must be out of the loop because I did not know about how bad P&G is but I know now and I can assure you that I will make sure that I am fully aware and educated about these things now and in the future.

| JMO, at least P&G does feeding trials on their foods. And also JMO safety could improve for BB if it was sold to P&G. I wouldn't feed BB at all now. I know the Iams cruelty is a concern, but I don't think it has been confirmed and may have stopped. If I was really convinced that they were doing that sort of thing, then I'd use the company for rx diets only.

| While I wouldn't be really "happy" with a P&G buyout.... I also don't feel it's the end of the world. Natura has not changed any of their formulas thus far as far as we know and they have been with them for a year or more. I would probably never feed IAMS but just because P&G owns Iams does not necessarily mean that everything else they own is terrible, either. Thanks for posting the info, though -- good to know.

| Oops, misspoke. Looks like Iams isn't into feeding trials either unless I'm missing something. So I wouldn't feed BB either way. But very sorry to the BB feeders who like the food. Honestly though, I wouldn't put too much faith into BB over P&G..

| I don't think so at all. As stated in another thread, all companies have the means of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, e-mail, websites and getting the recall out to all retailers who sell the food. If you are feeding a small-company based food, you are most likely going to hear about the recall just as fast as a large company. I am on an e-mail list for Nature's Variety, for example, and when they voluntarily recalled something, it was sent straight to my e-mail that day. I just don't believe that is the case. The only difference being, like the recalls in 2007, when they were ALL over the news media but that was because it was like 29287474 companies, lol.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I was afraid of something like this. I originally fed Innova to Rhett, but then he suddenly began to have wicked stomach problems from after the switch. He tolerates BB well, but I'm afraid of this happening again. Even if the basic formula doesn't change, the sources of some of the ingredients might due to corporate distributions . Blah... I don't want to have to change foods again. I'm going to ask my specialty food store to see if they've heard the same thing.

| The Blue Buffalo Company - Why Choose BLUE Dog Food and Cat Food? I am not sure why or how you think safety would improve because in my opinion a smaller company is going to be more careful and more diligent in doing the best job than a HUGE company....but that is JMO. I am not sure how it wasn't proved or confirmed because I watched the video from PETA and it looked pretty real and nasty to me. I would tend to be cautious and believe it rather than not. I do believe PETA sometimes goes a bit far sometimes but when it comes to cruelty to ANY animal I would want to know for sure that these big companies are not experimenting or conflicting harm due to research! | Yes, but I read when they bought out Iams no one knew about them making the changes from rice to barley and such until dogs were reportedly getting sick and the company defended themselves by saying they had 6 mos. to report and inform of the changes. The more I read about P&G the more I don't like them but that is just my opinion. You are welcome-I just wanted to give a heads up. Quote:

Smaller companies argue that making food in smaller batches is safer and that less product means more control. Some of them own and oversee their own factories rather than contract out production.

| I had heard such good things about BB and the people at the pet product store I go to which is a small family owned store are so genuine about their love for animals and their safety that I trust them when they told me BB was good. I also did some research and it looks to be highly recommended but if P&G buys them I will not buy it. I also just think it's sad when a small company that produces a good product gets bought out by a large one...but that is JMO. The Blue Buffalo Company - Why Choose BLUE Dog Food and Cat Food? Oh I see...in that case I can see the hesitation then. It has just really been a whirlwind with my knowledge of what food to feed and I just want to make the right choices and I really do trust the people at Lea's they seem to know A LOT about all of the foods they have on their shelves. I just want to make sure I am informed about what all of these things mean and if P&G does still have research labs or if there is even a possibility then I will stay away from them all together. I love Fromm and I think I may just keep him on that and hopefully the odoriferous gas will dissipate with time.

| My concern over BB is the amount of anecdotal evidence in numerous internet forums of dogs with gastro problems when eating BB. Many dogs do great on it.
