| Bruising After Grooming I have been reading these boards for a while but this is my first post. My little one is almost 2 years old and just over 5.5 pounds. We have been going to the same groomer since I got her and have never had any issues. Well, she went this past weekend and then that evening I noticed 3 bruises on her throat! I spoke with the owner today and she seems to think the new bather used the "noose" around Lucy's neck while she was getting her bath. And apparently she is wiggly when she gets her bath (and this is the first time they have ever mentioned that) so she thinks with the noose and the wiggling she basically caused the bruises herself. Has anyone else ever had this happen to their little one. I scared to death to take her back to the same groomer! (And I don't know if it's even related but she's had bad gas and hasn't been eating the same since she came home from the groomer on Saturday. I'm so worried about her!!!!) |

| Welcome to YT. Your poor baby. I would not go back to the groomer. This is unacceptable. As you probably know, Yorkies are prone to collapsed trachea. Nothing should ever place pressure on your dog's neck, certainly not enough to bruise your dog. No dog should have bruises. Have you ever considered grooming at home yourself? It is a challenge, especially for shorter cuts that require a little more skill than full coats, but it is very rewarding. After the initial investment in equipment, it is a great way to save money too.

| It is very bad that enough pressure was put around her neck to bruise her and its really bad for her trachea. I really feel its best for you and your dog to find a new groomer.

| Welcome to YT. I'm sorry your baby was hurt at the groomers. I too wouldn't go back. I like honesty in my vets and in my groomers. If there is a problem, or something happened, I'd like to hear it from them, and not have to call later when you discover something odd.

| I don't think I would believe her. Even if a noose was used, think how tight it would have had to been to cause brusing. Doesn't make sense. I am all for grooming them yourself and then you don't have to worry. Get a grooming book and some decent equipment and learn and relax in the fact you know your baby will not come to any harm. I just don't trust anything anymore. |

| Sorry this has happened to your baby but I agree with the others. Find a new groomer...which you will be weary of, or the best option...groom her yourself. If you make mistakes..it's ok cause it will grow back.

| Ellie used to pull on a collar all the time and I never noticed bruising. I would not go back. Had your pup been to the vet recently? Blood draws from the jugular often cause this.

| Thank you everyone for your advice! Lucy had been to the vet and had a blood draw about 2 weeks ago, but that bruise was long gone. The bruises from the groomer are getting better, but I am still so freaked out. I haven't found another good groomer in my area yet, but I'm going to keep looking. I am just not comfortable at all with what happened. I don't know if I could groom her myself, I would have no idea what I'm doing! lol She is my first pet so I'm still on a learning curve and I don't know how good I would be at grooming. |

| I certainly would not take her back. I started grooming my 4, they definitely don't look as good but I don't have to take them somewhere that I am not sure how they are being treated.

| Buy a grooming video for yorkies and give grooming at home a try yourself. I am scared to take my boys to a groomer, I would have to stay and watch the entire time if I did! I do it myself. Good luck to you and your little one

YT 1000 Club Member | More than likely Lucy was grabbed around the neck to hold her still. I had gone through a very similar incident about 5 years ago with our Pom. She came back from the groomers infested with fleas and had to go into the vet for allergies from them. Vet gave me some spray I had to shave her underside to make sure the spray got on her skin and saw bruising . Since then I have learned by trial and error to groom my dogs myself. Now I do a pretty good job and have saved tons of money . Just remember it is just hair and it will grow back.

| Can I make a suggestion? Have you looked into mobile groomers? I really like them because the appointment time you set is yours, they immediately start working on your pup. There's no appointment and then they'll throw your dog in a cage until they're ready for him. It's one on one attention by one person. The pup isn't passed from person to person leaving you guessing who did what. They're never more than a few steps away (in your driveway or parked down the st) so you can checkup on them. They're like any other groomer that you meet and try them out to see if you like them. I really lime that our pups are not caged!
