| Around Layla's incision is red- is that ok? Layla had her cyst removed on Wednesday- I noticed yesterday and today that is is red around it and slightly swollen- it looks like a sunburn. It does not hurt her when I touch it and there is nothing leaking from the incision. I read online that swelling and redness are part of the healing process but I just wanted to check with my "wealth of knowledge" to make sure that is true |

| Marci, call and ask the Vet. about this. Without looking at that red swollen area, it would only be a guess that I wouldn't want to take at face value. I'm sure she is probably ok, but why take chances. Hugs to you both, I know how worried you are.

| Oh I forgot to mention I called the vet- whoever I talked to put me on hold to ask someone- she said it was fine. I figured people on here might know more than whoever answered the phone |

| How strange. If it were my Vets. office staff, they would have ask the Vet., and the Vet. would have ask me to bring her in for a quick look, and at no charge. Marci, if that area gets any more swollen, I'd take her in. My Papillon, Spicy, had some kind of infection on her back a few weeks ago. I noticed a patch of hair sticking up so I pulled the hair back and there was a drop of puss. I got tissues, cotton balls and peroxide and then squeezed that area to get all the infection out as I could and it didn't hurt her at all. So I guess these infections directly under the skin aren't painful. This is why I would suggest taking her in if the swelling gets any worse.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I would think that's part of the normal healing process, but I'd call my vet to be sure. Always, remember that little "stripe" of red running from the wound is always a bad sign and could mean blood poisoning.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Lol, I just couldn't find a good picture of the stripe or streak, the ones I've seen before are fairly small. Looks like one sore finger too. By the way Priscilla, in case you're wondering, it isn't my arm!

| Thanks guys. I will see how it looks tomorrow and if need be bring her by the Emerg Vet to have a look. I am poking at it to see if she cares and she doens't- it isn't warm- just red and slightly swollen. I wish I could remember back to when I have an incision for my galbladder- I'm sure it got red as it was healing but I can't remember- was probably too out of it |

My aunt is a nurse- she was over for supper and said it looks fine- just to worry if it starts to bleed or something. She said the redness is normal. | |

| Wow, I didn't know that either. But...wholly-molley...that finger alone would tell me there is big problems coming.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I know the finger looks horrible doesn't it? Some things can look bad, but not be life threatening, that stripe on the arm means its life threatening.
