Allergic Reaction to Internal Sutures Ok Gio and I are back again...little guy just had surgery 5 weeks ago for bladder stone removal and liver exploritory. They have found now that he is allergic to the internal sutures. They know this one because he is still straing to pee and two he has developed two sores in on the incision where in the internal sutures are. He now has to have ANOTHER surgery next week! Has anyone ever dealt with this before is the recovery as bad as the initial stone removal surgery?! I am mortified he has to go through this again

I have no experience with this but wanted to say I am very sorry your guy has to face another surgery. Why are they doing the surgery next week? I would think the sutures would be dissolved by then.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This poor baby . I can see you're worried sick. Are they giving him anything for inflammation? And also, is he on pre-surg anitbiotics or anything, if they're worried about infection? Bc the skin is very vulnerable in this post-surg state...but even more so if inflamed.

I accidently deleted your message so I will leave one here. Pasha was allergic to the sutures and I am sorry to say the second surgery was just like the first one. Poor little Pasha cried most of the first night. To make matters worse the second night he was very nauseated and in the middle of the night while I was sleeping he ate potting soil to try to ease his stomach and the next day he started throwing up and would not stop. Of course it was a Sunday and I didn't wany to take him to emergency because they did not know his history. He threw up so violently that he slpped a disk in his back. Now he is getting acupunture and his back legs are getting somewhat better. This whole thing has been a nightmare. Pasha still has a granuloma in his bladder that was caused by the infection due to the suture reaction. Went to the vet today and I am cautionly happy to say that the granuloma is shrinking. This has been a 5 month ordeal, but he is slowly (very slowly) getting better. I hope and pray that your little one does not have any of these problems. What has happened to Pasha is very rare so hopefully Gio will come thru his second surgery with good results. I feel for you and keep me informed on his progress.

My poodle Rylie had a reaction to the sutures after her spay. They put her on anitbiotics and offered to operate to remove the the sutures, or let them try to disolve on their own. We put a cone on her and luckily the sores healed as the body expelled the sutures. Some just came out still intact and some disolved. The vet said she could continue to spit them out for awhile. It has been two months since her spay and we haven't seen any for a couple of weeks. The vet said they see this in cats often. Don't know if it is the same situation you are having, good luck!
