| Alfie's got a bad cough Hi All, I am so happy i found this site there is a great bit of info on here. We got Alfie last Sunday and he's been having this dry cough ever since. He's only 13 weeks old. it sounds like he is constantly trying to clear is throat, but rarely (if ever) gets anything up. My wife claims to have seen a feather come out of his mouth but i can neither confirm or deny this! This coughing seems to get worse is he is excited. The vet checked his lungs and said all was OK, but i only had him a day at that stage so didn't press it enough. So having read about collapsed trachea i have got myself into a worry about him. Have any of you experienced this? What should i do? The poor wee buggar is only a baby Any help would be greatly appreciated. Donal |

| I would take him back to the vet if he is still coughing, especially as young as he is. He could have come to you w kennel cough. Here in the US they give antibiotics (Clavamox or Baytril) and sometimes cough suppressant (Delsym, Tussagon). It also could be a collapsing trachea. He is very young and tiny and could become very sick very fast, so again, I would take him back to the vet. He can have kennel cough and have clear lungs. It does help if you have a video camera or a cell phone that videos to video one of his coughing episodes and take along to the vet. I did that when my Gidget had a cough, and it helped the vet be able to tell what was going on. She had kennel cough and allergies; put on antibiotics, cough suppressant and children's allergy med. Took about 2 months to clear up. Wish you well w your little one! Please let us know how you make out! Welcome!

| Coughing/Hacking I've had my puppy for about 5 weeks now, and he had a cough, or more of a hacking. The vet tried 2 different kinds of antibiotics and he still has it but it's getting fewer and far between. Everything else about him is normal, he's eating, playing, seems healthy otherwise, I am hoping that it will get better as he gets a little older. Things I'd watch for is if your puppy is not eating, seems lethargic, coughing up stuff, then you know it's something serious. I'd still try to get that cough on video as suggested and bring him for regular check ups to keep an eye on it. I hope your puppy gets better soon and it's not a collapsed trachea. Good luck. |

| Never give Baytril to a growing puppy. It can cause serious problems.
