| What do I feed an overweight Yorkie I got Tilly spayed following a litter of puppies. She always had a great figure until now. Her weight snuck up on me and she has to loose 2 pounds. I have been monitoring the amount of food she eats 1/2cup a day. And I put her on Lean Dog powder to help. I am giving her Premium Edge weight management food. In the last month she hasn't lost anything. Is there a better diet food for her that I can try? |

| Exercise will benefit her more than cutting back on her food or changing it.

| As MikaTallulah suggested, it's better to increase exercise than to simply change her diet. It's the same way with humans, you can't just lose weight by changing diet alone.

| Less. As in portion control.

| I agree, exercise and maybe try adding veggies to her meals and substituting them for treats if you are treating her.

| My Nadia needs to lose a little and my vet recommended green beans to replace some of her food. It has been working and she loves them!!! 5 oz lost and that's a lot for a little dog!!

| Reading with interest, yes I do have a porky-yorkie. Winston is active, but he is ALWAYS eating. So I too am curious about a lower calorie food...the vet wants him to eat small, frequent meals to keep his sugar stable and to try to limit his physical activity, if his sugar drops to low, he has seizures. This does seem to work...but the extra ounces are turning into extra pounds. I just want him to be happy and healthy.

Are the green beans raw(hard) or do you cook them first, or are you using canned green beans? Just curious, seems like they'd like the fresh raw ones for "crunch". I wanted to give mine some grn beans, thus the questions. Thanks.

| My breeder told me to get the frozen green beans but if I did use the canned ones to rinse them off to get salt etc. off them. I have 2 on diets right now that haven't lost all that much on the OM diet. I bought some of the lite Science Diet (which I would not feed to anything, but I'm desperate here) and its horrible. Poor babies, I'm almost tempted to put mine back on their regular food and put them on the treadmill. Good luck with your little one. You feel so sorry for them because they act like they are starving. |

| I think exercise is key. There are lots of "low fat" type dog foods out there but I think it's more about portion control and more exercise. Just feed less! However, some of the lower calorie foods offered are Natural Balance. All of their formulas are low-cal and most are low protein/fat, too. Sometimes I don't think it has enough meat though so I'd want to add canned food or real meat to it. Ummm... Wellness CORE Reduced Fat. I am feeding Taste of the Wild (Sierra Mountain formula) and it's pretty lowcal, around 320 kcal/cup.

| I have used raw green beans and now the frozen kind as it's easier for me. All natural and nothing added to them. We give as treats too and all the furkids LOVE them!! I cut one into 4 pieces since they want to eat them so fast I am afraid it will get caught!!

| When I got Baxter he was over weight. Vet told me to do canned green beans with no salt. I would cook him brown rice and green beans for one of his two meals a day. Ever so often I would shred some steamed chicken. He still would rather have it than his kibble. He looks better and moves better, but he also gets walked everyday. |

| I started feeding my dog Wellness super 5 mix chicken, and it only is 10% fat if i remember right, and it really helped him lose weight. And he can continue to eat the same amount as before since its such low fat. It worked great for us. |
