| My 3 year old can't stop itching My yorkie has the itch and it led to some hair loss, and I have had him at the vet a couple of times, and he gave him some steriod shots & antibiotics which only temporarily fixed the problem. The vet said he was allergic to fleas. That is something I had great difficulty getting rid of until recently, and it still seems my yard treatment wasn't fully effective, so my dogs can carry some back in. But right now, no fleas on any of my animals. My yorkie still wants to eat himself up. I have to keep an outfit on him so he doesn't do this, but he will take his teeth and bite and scratch fist size blood spots on him. His hair has been dry, I've noticed white flakes in it, he lost hair again, so I just gave him a good shave the other day, and left his facial hair long. Still, wants to eat himself up. I have started rubbing cocoa butter on him for his dryness, currently have him on another antibiotic. Please please please tell me what to do for this little turk. I am not sure my vet properly diagnosed his condition, when he is still itching that badly with no fleas. I have tried hydrocordisone shampoo too and no luck. I have also had him on allergy medication I bought from a pet shop. Should I put him back on this medication? |

| We went through the itching and all the antibiotics, shampoos, etc. and eventually for Gus it was the treats we were giving him causing the allergies. We found he can`t tolerate any treats with food coloring. |

| Have you tried him on Revolution? Sounds like he may have Sarcoptic mites. Any people itching in the household? Or right after holding him in your lap? Skin scrapings done by the vet can frequently miss mites.

| I have 4 yorkies in my home and he is the only one doing this, & none of us are itching from holding him or at any other time. I haven't tried Revolution. His dandruff makes me think that his skin is just too dry, that is why I'm using cocoa butter on him now. Hopefully that'll give him some relief. I'll have to look back in his vet receipts and see when this all started. If it's since I moved, then it could be something he's eating or the treats. |

| I did find white flakes when one of mine got mites. It usually is worse around the very outer edges or the ear flaps. Just to mention here, I've noticed over the years that any parasites seem to go after my weaker dog, whether it be fleas, ticks or mites, I always find them on her first... and usually worse (or even only) on her. That said, do you use a conditioner on him? I use anything containing Coconut oil, and leave it on for 2-5 minutes. I've also started using a bit of Coconut oil mixed with warm water as a final rinse, as CO is soothing to the skin. That said, if he's having food allergies, Chicken is the #1 allergen in Yorkies. Also consider if it's allergies, some pups are allergic to Oatmeal in shampoos and conditioners, which is touted to be skin soothing. Food allergies usually start with facial itching, then the front feet, then the entire body. A Vet Dermatologist will most likely be able to get to the source of his itching quicker than a regular vet. (Seen this happen here frequently). Wishing you the best of luck for a quick diagnosis and resolution.
