| After spay Jovi got spayed on Wednesday and they told me to keep her calm - no running and jumping - my hyper puppy can't help herself - she runs and jumps on the couch like nothing is wrong. The only thing I can do is put her in her pen but then she whines and cries.... I feel so bad. On the good side I guess she isn't in pain from the surgery. Any tips would be appreciated - not sure I'll make it another 10 days. |

| I'd recommend the xpen for 2-3 days, then maybe into a room when there's no furniture she could jump on. If she rips her incision open, she'll be back in the hospital for more surgery and it'll just start all over again.

| Really the only two options are holding her or letting her cry it out. You don't want anything to happen to the surgery site as KJC said. It is in her best interest to keep her still. Think of it this way. We as humans are the ones who understand what can happen if they aren't calm. They don't. So it's really on us to keep them quiet.

| It's hard, but it's best to keep her calm and not so active. Can you gate her off in the kitchen so can have some room but not too much room?

| I kept Harley in his play yard for 4 days..than I let him have run of the Dinning room for the remained of his 3 days...my Vet said 7 days of rest no jumping/running/rough play...that I could take him outside to potty on a leash...What I did is set up his play yard right by me, so he would be with us all the time, if I moved to another room I moved him with us...and he slept in the bed at night with us like always...Its important to make sure they rest during recovery.

| I know this may not be a popular option, but when I had one of my Yorkies spayed 9 years ago the vet gave me some liquid pain medication with a light sedative. She was a larger Yorkie and I allowed her to jump on the furniture. It did not knock her out or anything, but she was definitely a space cadet for a few days. |

| Thanks for all the advice - I know she needs to be calm and while she may not like it it is for her own good. |
