| Enteritis Last month Jessica was diagnosed with possible enteritis. Symptoms were: stomack pain (didn't sleep all night), unformed black stool, a little bit vomiting. I took her to the vet immediately. Vet was thinking she has a pancreatitis, but test came negative. She took CBC/giardia/lipase/fecal tests. All normal. She was under treatment (antibiotics) for a week, all symptoms are gone. BUT. yesterday, after I made an appointment for teeth cleaning, she had some symptoms again. Actually, from time to time (seldom issue) she vomites (yellow foam). Recently, I don't like how she breathes. She walks like she is tired, and breathing is hard to me. It can be also one of the symptoms. Vet mentioned about healthy diet. So I really would like to know as much as possible about enteritis. Google shows pancreatitis can be fatal, and this is not what I can even imagine of.... If any of your dogs have same issues, please respond with your experience and advices. I don't want my girl being sick, she is my word. BTW, at this moment I am worried about her. She is in pain (seems like stomack). Last month because of it, I didn't clean her teeth, but today I did, and although she was given a pain medication (her teeth were removed), she is in pain, but stomack pain - not mouth (I can see). |

| Black stool can be indicative of 'old' blood, from further up in her digestive tract. If I were you, I would have additional bloodwork done, and maybe an x-ray to check her lungs if she's having trouble breathing. Sounds like a situation for more aggressive treatment... PS: Glad to see you back.... wish it was under better circumstances though.

| Thanks, I still pay Polinka's bills, and here we go again - two month - two visits - almost $700. For Jessica. But ... Jessica means everything to me. I will not let anything happen to her. Maybe I should go to internal specialist? You see, after Polinka's illness I became almost paranoid. Every small issue is big for me. Vet seems like thinks I am everreacted. Vet said her heart and lungs are fine. Last edited by omichka; 06-17-2011 at 03:42 PM. |

Internal specialist, or sometimes ER Vets are better at making a diagnosis than regular vets.

| Sorry to hear you are going through this w your pup. It does sound like the symptoms my Cricket had w pancreatitis - bad stomach pain, vomiting frothy yellow material, unformed stools, pacing w pain. I was surprised to see the test was negative. Cricket's pancreatitis turned out to be chronic (which my vet tells me is common in dogs). Her vet originally prescribed antibiotic and pain med. She had to be kept on a bland diet to stop the spells. She was on canned Hills prescription ID and had to stay on it indefinitely for the pancreatitis/GI issues. All high fat treats were stopped - cheese, beggin strips, etc. I had to check everything to make sure I kept her diet bland, low fat. I don't know how much help this will be. I think I would ask for another pancreatitis check. I think this breed is also susceptible for enteritis issues which include intestinal bleeding. I would also think of going to a GI specialist if not getting any answers from your vet. I feel for what you are going through. Will keep you and your little one in my prayers. Please let us know how she is doing.

| I forgot to mention if she is still having difficulty breathing I would ask for a chest and abdominal x-ray. You could also check her gums and tongue to see if they are pink or bluish. Bluish needs a vet immediately. I wish you well.

| Thanks, of course, it helps Her gums are almost red, my poor baby had dental. I suppose to give her clindamycin for a while. So far, what I figure out, I have to be more serious re. her diet. She did same treatment too, but I do believe she has chronic also. What made me scared and one of the reason to post - Google shows that pancreatitis can be fatal without treatment. Enteritis is kind of. I just want to make sure I will not miss anything. Thanks again-) |
