| Upset Stomach with Natural Balance Potato and Duck. HELP! Lilly has been on Natural Balance Potato and Duck Small Bites for around 2+ years now. She has done wonderful on it up until about 2 weeks ago. Every bowel movement has been horrible diarrhea. I noticed a color change in her food with this newest bag I bought, it looks richer in color and almost like oily instead of the pale dry dog food look. Has anyone else had these problems or noticed a change in food color?? What do I need to do? I know I obviously need to switch her food but I have no idea what to switch to. It needs to be something I can get at PetCo and still around the $10 - $15 price range. She will also not eat anything that's a big kibble she's so picky, it's ridiculous.

| Has she had diarrhea for 2 straight weeks? Does she have any other problems or is everything else normal? I would be very concerned about that many loose stools and would drop off a sample with the vet, discuss with the vet. You could try one of the other NB small bites flavors/formulas. The other good brands at Petco are Castor & Pollux and Wellness, but I think they cost more. Do you have any other stores in your area? I feed my boys Fromm, which is the same price as NB. The Fromm Four Star Nutritionals have many different flavors and are available at specialty shops.

| I feed NB Lamb and Brown Rice currently but I did try the Duck and Potato in the past. Their poop was oily and smelled horrible. I switch and never had a problem again. I think the duck is more oily than the other meats.

| So this happened right after switching? As much as it does sound like it is a reaction to the formula change, I think it would be wise to have the vet take a look at her. That much loose stool can be extremely dangerous. They can also give something to help her intestines return to normal. Right now I'd probably be giving chicken and rice to settle things and then transition to something else.

| Natural Balance did that with their Duck and Potato formula before and that is exactly what happened to many dogs, really bad stomach upsets. They had upped the potato and many could not handle it. They have likely changed the formula again. It would be a good idea to find another formula, other companies that are good make Duck and Potato, can't remember which ones off the top of my head. Yes a formula change can cause severe bowel upsets. I sure wish dog food companies paid way more attention to that fact. |

| I don't think I clarified my post very well... I didn't switch her food she's been on this food for 2+ years, I'm thinking Natural Balance changed something. I don't know how to feed her chicken and rice without her inhaling it. She has a very hyper personality and I'm afraid if I give her chicken and rice she will eat it fast and puke it up. So I should just try a different food in the Natural Balance line and that may help?
