YT Addict | Dolce's weight Hello everyone! I have a quick question. My baby girl, Dolce, will be 8 months old in 6 days (she is growing up way too fast! lol), and she weighs 3.6-3.8 lbs. I have been taking her to see the vet regularly, since I got her at 4 months old, about every 2 weeks until recently. Last time she saw the vet was about 3 weeks ago. She has been consistently gaining 0.2 lbs every time we go see the vet. The vet said she was done growing 2 months ago, but she is still getting a little bigger, weight-wise. I was just wondering if anyone thinks she will get up to 4 or even 5 lbs?? I think shes just the most adorable thing being as small as she is, but I'm also concerned about her health being so tiny. How old were your babies when they stopped growing?? I was thinking about breeding Dolce, but I won't do it if she doesn't at least get to a little over 4 lbs. I don't want to lose my baby. I just want to experience motherhood through my baby lol i know it sounds silly but since I can't experience it myself I would just love to care for some little puppies and watch my little girl be a mother. I don't want to sell the puppies either. Depending on how many she might have, I would definitely keep at least one of them and I have 2 sisters that would want one and my mom said she would even love to have a puppy because our family dog, Sandy, who is a cocker spaniel is in her last years, or even months....She is 13 yrs old and we love her to death, but i think my parents will be really lost without her. Anyway, sorry to bore you with my long story, but I would love to hear your responses about your baby's weights and when they stopped growing. Thanks guys!

YT Addict | I want to also mention about the breeding that I will absolutely NOT do it if the vet does not clear her, she is not up to the right weight, or if I cannot find a stud that meets the correct requirements. Another reason I was considering breeding Dolce is because of her tempermant. She has the sweetest disposition, she rarely ever barks, she is a very fast learner, and she has never once bitten or tried to bite anyone, even when she was teething. The only thing I'm worried about is her weight, so if she doesnt fit the bill then it is perfectly fine with me. I lover her just the same. I just wanted to mention this because I know I've seen some other posts of people asking if they should breed their tiny yorkies and I know what some people will say if I didnt explain myself clearly from my last post. I am in no way trying to breed for money, cuz i know i will more likely than not be spending money, not making it. Plus like i said, i dont want to sell the puppies. Most will be given away if I do decide to take this route, but I know they are going to good homes because they are my family, plus It will be like an open adoption that way LOL so i can see them whenever I want haha. I should also mention that Dolce comes from a champion line of blood, I'm not sure how far back it goes other than as far as 3 generations, but I might do a little digging up on that tonight. Anyway, sorry to post another story again, but I just didnt want people to start gettting angry at me or anything about what I said in my last post. Thanks again guys for listening to me rant hahaha. And again, I would appreciate your answers on the growing up/weight question above.

| There are a couple of good threads to read in the YT library about deciding whether or not to breed: Breeding and Breed-Specific Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community I am not a breeder, but I have read many of the comments from breeder/exhibitors here and many veterans agree that they do not enjoy the whelping process because they worry so much about their girls. It doesn't sound like your girl is going to reach 5 pounds. But, even if she were 8 pounds, you do have to seriously consider the possibility that you could lose her in the process.

| I would first like to say Thank you for taking the time to look into breeding before you actually did it. Not many people take into consideration all that can go wrong before they breed. They learn that the hard way. As far as size....I think she will make it in the 4lb range but not much more than that. With her being the size that she is she will most likely be too small to breed safely. When people think of breeding the see all the fun involved. The cute puppies and everything going smoothly. Well, I am here to tell you that it does not always happen like that. I took care of a 4lb girl who was breed and she ended up having a c-section just to deliver the puppies and then a 2nd surgery 2 days later just to save her life. She spent 2 nights at the ER vet and the puppies all had to be bottle fed. Sure puppies are fun and cute but the weeks of no sleep and the money for the emergencies to make sure they all survive takes a toll on a person. I still to this day look at the momma and tell her I am sorry for what she went through. She is fine now but she had one foot inside deaths door and was given less than a 20% chance of survival. I am not saying that all breeding encounters experience the problems that we seen but my question would be is having puppies worth it to put your little girl through that? With so many puppies in shelters, I am sure you could find a perfect one for your family members and still have your precious little girl safe in your arms. Good luck with your research and your discission.

As far as getting Dolce a companion, male or female, I would like to get an older Yorkie from a rescue of some sort. Does anyone know of any rescues in Tucson, AZ or even Phoenix, AZ??? Maybe i should start a new thread about this in another section, i donno. Thanks again to both of you! You gave me a couple other things to think about!
