| Help! Adult canines coming in wrong? So I was just looking at bentleys new teeth while he was trying to lay down for a nap and i noticed his top canines coming in, right behind his baby ones. I was like okay their finally coming in. I looked for the bottoms in the same spot and didnt seem them. Until he opened his mouth and I see bottom ones are coming in beside his baby ones but toward the inside of his mouth (like where his tongue lays). Heres a picture I found on google from another dog forum: http://www.pets.ca/forum/attachment....1&d=1118032601 His look like this except the baby teeth arent pushed out to the side and are more in align with the rest of his teeth and gum line, and the adult teeth and much more on his inside of his mouth. and his baby canines dont feel loose at all yet... The only reason I am freaking out is because, I've read horror stories where the teeth come in like this, and hit the roof of the mouth. They then either need doggy braces, or the teeth are pulled out or shaved down so they arent long enough to hit the roof of the mouth. The owner of the dog made it seem like this was a nightmare and that no one warned her ahead of time. Was the story I read just a one case scenario? Is it normal for his teeth to come in like this or should I be worried? As they push out more maybe his baby ones will become loose and they will line up better inside his mouth? How did your babies teeth come in? I just really wanted to wait for him to be atleast 8 months to 1 year old before we got him neutered. I feel 6 months is definitely to early.. PLEASE any advice would be so great!! |

| I would have the baby teeth pulled as soon as possible. The sooner you get him into your vet, the better the chance you have in avoiding costly problems. Usually the remaining baby teeth are pulled during neutering, which typically is at 6 months of age.

| I would also have them pulled now if the vet looks in there and agrees. Why did you want to wait to neuter? Some wait til at least a year until growth is pretty much done. Why at least 8 months though? Six months is not too early to neuter a Yorkie.

| My girls canine teeth came in the same way that you are describing. I was going to have her spayed at 6 months, but held off to give her canines more time to fall out on their own. I played tug of war with her a lot, and gave her plenty to chew on to try and help the process. The bottom canines did get loose, fell out on their own, and the adult canines moved quickly into the correct position. The top baby canines hung on with a kung-fu death grip, so I finally went ahead with the spay at 7-8 months and had them pulled then.

| I wanted to wait for him to be neutered until he was done growing and the growth plates closed... I think I'm going to watch them over the next few days to see if they push over any because it does look as if they might be trying to come in correctly. I know his front teeth came in almost over night but how long does it normally take for canines to come in? |

| Ziva had 7 teeth pulled at her 6 month spay- they were all over the place-I could hardly tell which were baby and adult teeth. Glad the vet could! When we looked in her mouth the next morning (expecting to see shredded gums) all we saw was a perfect set of correctly lined up teeth- the gums retracted so fast and her teeth are very nice now!(2 yrs) |

| At six months, you can definitely afford to wait at least a month (or more) to see what is going to happen. The canines do take longer to fully come in .... it seems like they get longer and longer and longer .... so just give them some more time, play with him and let him chew, and he might still lose them on his own. At 6 mos., I don't think it is time to give up yet. When Jezebel's bottom canines finally came out, it was amazing how quickly the adult canines moved outward and into the proper position. I don't think you need to worry about messing up her bite permanently (at this point) by waiting some more. You have time, be patient and don't fret at this point.
