YT Addict | Help, worms Abby had her stool sample done when she went to get her Rabies vaccine and the vet said she has giardia and coccidiosis. She gave her 2 meds to take, 1 for 5 days and the other for 9. How did she get this. She doesn't go to many places. Is there anything I should be doing to my house? Any one know about this? |

| I would call the Vet and ask what cleaner to use in her crate or play yard and your floors...I would wash all her bedding and yours...Cause I think humans can get giardia as well...I would clean everything with bleach, just rinse really well...Hopefully someone else will chime in that knows a little more about it than me...Sorry wish I could be more help...Good luck.

| I found this for cleaning and I also seen that humans can get it...so clean clean clean...I would clean her area everytime after she pottied, I would also wash her bedding and yours on a daily bases...thur out her treatment and after for awhile just to be on the safe side...and if you have other dogs or cats, they need to be treated as well. Thoroughly clean all areas where the dog defecates after treatments are completed. I suggest a 30 parts water to 1 part bleach solution to kill any lingering giardia parasites. Allow this solution to sit for a half hour before rinsing off or reintroducing dogs to the area.

YT Addict | Thanks. I have already washed all of the bedding and throw rugs.I did some floor washing but haven't finished it yet. Also she hasn't really been eating much the last 2 days and I don't know if this is part of having worms or if it is something else. She usually dives into her wet food and she still hasn't eaten a bite after a few hours. She is still playing and she is also sleeping a lot as well. She had her rabies shot yesterday so I am dealing with a lot of possibilites. |

| Rabies alone will make them sleep alot and they won't be that hungry for a few days...and I'm sure the giardia and coccidiosis is effecting her too...I'm surprised your Vet went ahead and gave her the Rabies with her already sick with giardia and coccidiosis....Poor baby I sure hope she starts feeling better soon.

YT Addict | The vet did not know she had the worms until the day after the shot was given. My poor baby ... When will she start to feel better? I hate to have her go thru anything. But none of us want to see our babies under the weather. |

| Well if it was just the rabies shot I would say in a day or 2 but with her having giardia and coccidiosis, it could be longer...just make sure she eats and drinks something...boil some chicken breast or chicken liver...see if she will nibble on that...and you can try pouring the broth from the chicken on her kibble as well...Yorkies like cottage cheese too, you can mix that with her kibble too.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm a little confused; did the vet say that you dog had Giardia and Coccidia, and worms, or that she was testing for Giardia and Coccidia and worms? They are three different things, but all can live in the intestinal tract, and you test for them through a fecal sample. From my understanding, Giardia and Coccidia are much more serious than worms. Your best bet is to call your vet, and describe the symptoms, and ask her when Abby should feel better. Make sure you get the correct diagnosis; you will have much more cleaning to do if it's Giardia and Coccidia than if it's worms. Worms are not as serious, and much more easily treated. Hope Abby feels better really soon.

YT Addict | Well Nancy your right. I may be confused myself. I can tell you that she gave me paper work on Giardia and Coccidiosis. I am not sure if worms were ever really said. It was a stool sample that diagnosed this. I think because of this I assumed worms. She has also prescribed Panacur and Albon/Coccidiostat of which Abby started today with no problems taking it. She did say one of things she probably had since I got her. I can't remember which but when I brought her for her very first checkup they tested the stool and everything was fine. How would she have gotten these things? |
