| Nutri-cal Hi, I'm new to this forum, I have a four and a half month old tea cup yorkie and he is doing really well. When we brought him home we were given instructions to feed him the nutria-cal several times a day in case of low blood sugar and to help him eat. My question for you is; how long must I give him the nutri-cal and is there a time where I should stop giving it to him so frequently and just have it on hand for emergencies? Or do I have to give it to him frequently for the duration of his life? I just want to stay on top of things.. The toilet training is doing ok, I have him in a baby gate at night so he won't wonder around and hurt himself, but eventually I want to be able to have him out 24/7, with him knowing where to go to the bathroom to do his business. He has been having a lot of accidents in the house so I take him outside and watch him three times a day, he loves that but I have to watch him! We love him so much he is our baby, and he is soooooo sweet! Thank you so much! Have a blessed day everyone! |

| Did the vet or breeder say to give Nutrical several times daily?

| Welcome to Yorkietalk and congratulations on your baby. I'm not sure why breeders recommend giving nutrical as a daily supplement. That is sort of like saying give sugar to a baby daily to prevent diabetes. It should not be used as a preventative and should be saved for when the pup is actually hypoglycemic. Regular food and rest are the best ways to prevent hypoglycemic episodes. For potty training, keep in mind that Yorkies need more than 3 potty breaks a day, especially when they are young. If you visit the training section, you will find lots of threads with tips on housebreaking. There is also a "sticky" thread at the top of the training forum. Whichever method you choose, be consistent and be sure to praise your pup for each correct potty.
