| Tests for 2 year old Buster is going in for his rabies vaccination this month. He has had the normal blood work done for his LP in October of 2010. I have noticed that many Yorkies seem to have issues that come up around 2 years of age. I was looking in the YT library and could not find a sticky regarding testing to look for possible issues due to his poor breeding. I was wondering what tests would be wise to get done to rule out possible issues like liver shunt etc. Is there a sticky somewhere or a site to go find out which tests to request? Thanks I appreciate your help.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I like to have a routine blood panel done on mine every year now to keep check on their overall health. Roxie is 3 1/2 and will get her first one since she was spayed. Pixe, Cali and Nikki all had there's in the last few months.

| Just a regular blood work panel - comp./CBC should cover everything (of course in addition to the annual Heartworm/Lyme/Eh and stool tests). A Bile Acid test checks for liver shunt specifically, but without symptoms or "off" liver values with the standard bloodwork, I don't think that would be necessary. In my vet tech experience, no other teats are run on a "routine" basis. Some large breed owners get OFA testing for hips, but you don't need that and you already know about the LP, so I'd say just the Comp(comprehensive diagnostic profile)./CBC

| Blood panel with CBC is "required" for all dogs over 6. It really should be done at least yearly (some say twice yearly) for dogs of any age though. Heartworm test. You can do a bile acids test. Not necessarily recommended, but an extremely good idea to do in Yorkies just to look. That would probably only need to be done once. Fecal. I also like to do a urinalysis, but I like to be careful... While not at all routine, you can do an EKG if you want to. Some people also do vaccine titers.
