| 3 Ticks on Lucy Wow. I am really going to have to make some decisions on what preventative to use. Took Lucy and Ringo for a walk on Sunday - on a paved trail; not heavily wooded. I found two ticks on her that day and another one this morning! None on Ringo. Lucy takes Interceptor in the winter and Sentinel in the summer (or vice versa) and neither have any tick prevention. Hmmm. Off to search some threads. Ticks must be bad here in OH.

| Ugh, I feel you. Ticks are BAD here. I feel like they never go away. I stopped using flea/tick meds on Jackson in November hoping I wouldn't have to use any and he got two or three ticks in December. So back we went. I use Frontline now for the late Fall through early Spring (October-April) and then we go to K9 Advantix because the Frontline doesn't work well enough in the summer months. I really would prefer to use Frontline all the time as it doesn't contain permerthin (sp?) but unfortunately, it's not strong enough for the ticks around here. Now, we've never had a flea problem ever. Even when our dogs (my families) are on no flea/ticks meds, for some reason fleas don't seem to be an issue? Never even seen one in my life. Jackson tested positive for Lymes in January 2010 and was put on antibiotics for 30 days. He had started limping and it was a symptom of the lymes. Tested him again in January of this year and he's negative. So I'd rather be safe and just keep him on preventatives all year.

My vet recommended I put a tick collar on her - just during the walk; but I just don't know. Ringo takes Comfortis and while it's not labeled to kill ticks; the vet says it pretty much does. Lucy didn't meet the weight requirements for Comfortis but maybe Jackson would?

| Frontline Plus or Advantix. Actually though, the Preventix collar doesn't sound like a bad idea just for walks. I'd give that a lot of thought. I guess I'd look a lot into safety reviews on it. There are a ton of adverse reports on Spinosad (Comfortis, esp. for how new it is).

I'm not sure whether to use Frontline Plus or Advantix. The meds in Advantix scare me a little and yet I'm worried the Frontline won't be effective.

Max had 3 in one day once before I changed to K9 Advantix. Mickey has not had any (Max was a puppy then- before I got Mickey).

Last year, I found 3 ticks on the boys, so I started the Frontline. We quit using it in the fall, although I know ticks are are out there year round, but not so much in our area. Teddy had an engorged tick last month, but I haven't done the Frontline yet. I wanted to give it mid month since we give the heartworm med on the first of every month. In the meantime, I have just been checking the boys carefully, but I still worry about the deer ticks that are almost microscopic.

| No, K9 Advantix is a topical just like Frontline but it repels ticks, fleas AND mosquitoes. Maybe that's what you are thinking of?

| Some brands repel and some kill. Repel hopefully means they do not attach to your pet first before being killed. Anyone know?

| K9 Advantix repels. Frontline just kills... but they can still get on your pet. I never saw one tick on Jackson while on Advantix but he got a few while on Frontline.

| Are you thinking of Revolution? It's a topical for heartworm and fleas.
