| what do you use for flea & tick protection? Princess will be going to the vet soon for her flea & tick, and heartworm preventatives. she has previously been on frontline, but i have heard too many negative things here to continue it. so what do you use on your baby? also, i have a coupon for 1-800-pet-meds i believe, do you think they are a safe, reliable way to get the preventatives? not for any other meds, i would def want that cleared through the vet. thanks!

| I haven't heard anything negative about Frontline in terms of being pretty safe to use, etc. I use it during the winter months (those darn ticks just don't seem to ever die) but during the summer, I have to use K9 Advantix. Frontline just does not keep the ticks away here in MD but I'd actually prefer to use Frontline as it does not contain perimethin (sp?)... but it doesn't seem to work in the summer for us.

| The reason I don't like frontline is because they don't repel ticks, they kill them after they've already attached, which could be too late in terms of lyme's disease, especially since it is so prevalent in my area. At least that's what I've read and also experienced by using it on my dogs. I'm going to be using k9 advantix this summer because I've heard good things about them getting fleas and ticks away.

| I have Frontline here, but would only use it if I saw a flea. Something else I'm considering is the Sentinel/Capstar route. Probably won't do that anytime soon though. I've used Advantix and it was fine. Would not choose it now though (because I can't justify the permethrin when exposure to ticks here is sooo low with our lifestyle - would consider Advantage though).

| I use the Revolution on all my girls. They have never had a flea or tick and I love that it is dosed closer to their actual weight. Princess gets the <5 lbs. and my others get the 5-10 lbs. It has the heartworm and the flea in one topical dosage. I have used it for about 8 years and never had a problem with it. In Texas, we must treat year round since the fleas and heartworms are always present. Be sure and get your babies checked for heartworms before giving them anything for it. They will need to be HW negative before starting any treatment. We get it from our vet. |

| I use Revolution on my 6. It covers every thing. Fleas, ticks, worms. and it does not bother them when I put it on. Jackie and Sadie have a reaction to the other ones. This one works best for them and they are not bothered by it.

| I've been using Frontline plus for nearly 11 years on my dogs without ever having a problem and I have been given the green light to use it on my dog who has epilepsy as well and so far he is fine with it as well. I stop it in the winter despite the recommendation is to use it year round in our area.

| I have tried them all...frontline, Revolution, Sentinel and still had fleas... K9 Advantix and Advantage is the only ones that I found that work...I use the Advantage in the summer for the fleas and the K9 Advantix in the winter for fleas and ticks...ticks are really bad here in Florida during the winter months...I only use them if I need too...sometimes we can go a few months without using either one but other times like right now the fleas are bad and I have them on Advantage.

| I use advantage and its the only thing I will use. My vet even had me use 2 drops of advantage for cats for a 3 week old kitten that had fleas. He also said it was safe to use on pregnant females which I didnt but wished I did because the kitten ended up getting fleas from the mom.

| I've been using Frontline Plus for many years with success and never any problem, although I do know that if you have a big tick problem in your area it may not do the job well enough. We do have a lot of ticks hI don't use Advantix because I have a cat who likes to hang out with the dogs (he plays with my yorkie all the time) and K9 Advantix is extremely dangerous for cats if they "groom" a dog treated with it (I've seen it quite a few times when I worked as a vet tech and not alot of ppl, even vets, realize this). I think pretty much any product sold by a veterinarian will work (frontline, advantage, revolution etc.) fine when used as directed. I've used pretty much everything at least once since working for a vet I would get "freebies" from the drug reps. and they all worked great. I just personaly stick with the Frontline, like I said, because of my cat.

| I just picked up Advantix for the 4 of mine for 6 months and it was $355.25. Guess I need to re-think retiring! |
