| What kind of oil? Moo has itchy skin...she is sensitive to fish, rice and milk. The food I feed now is Pinnacle Duck and Potato and it has 13% fat. I make home made food that is skinless chicken breasts, carrots, green beans, zucchini, white potato and sweet potato...cooked in the crock pot over night, mixed together and I put a little over their dry food twce a day. Her treats do not contain fish, milk or rice. The only other treats they get are bites of apple or banana. Her tests did not show allergies to environmental or chemical but I still feel this could be allergies. What kind of oil can I use as a supplement over their food that will be safe for her and that doesn't contain fish and how much should I use? Moo has always had ear issues, she scratches a lot and licks her tush. Once I changed their food and started home cooking for them she all but stopped and I thought we had it under control...however, she has started again. What am I doing wrong with her?? Does she need more fat in her diet? Some kind of supplement? Could this be a yeast or bacterial issue?? They have absolutely no fleas so it's not that. I'm at a loss... |

| Is her skin looking healthy? Could be allergies. Could still be food allergies... (blood testing for food allergies is not considered accurate enough to rely on. there are false positives and negatives). She probably needs an elimination diet for about 12 weeks. You could potentially give flax in place of fish oil, but that isn't without problems in allergy prone dogs. Many people use coconut oil. No comment on that except I doubt any oil will fix the underlying problem.

| Yes, her skin looks healthy. Maybe I should take out the dry food and feed her home cooked only... They got their hair cut short for summer a few days ago and I used the same shampoo I have always used...John Paul Pet by Paul Mitchell. No changes other than their hair cuts. I'll try another bath today too and make sure I rinse really well. One thing though...we do have hard water here. Is there any kind of rinse I can use that might help? |

| Is she itching all over or just those main areas that you mentioned above? If the insides of her ears are itchy and there is no gunk coming out, then I'd say allergies. Have drugs ever been tried when this happens to see what kind of relief she can get (steroids, Atopica, antihistamines)? If it is believed to be allergies and you don't want to go the drug route yet, then really an elimination diet is the only thing you can do. Leaving her on a food she is currently on wouldn't be a true elim. diet. Chicken is very common in dog food. I'd get her off of that for now. Have you tried a hydrolyzed protein diet from the vet?

| All over, she would itch and scratch till I took her in to vet to, I couldn't! She had many skin troubles also associated with food allergies until after 10, 15 changes, we finally went to holistic Blue Buffalo. Shampoos were a real treat too, we ened up with mane and tail horse from walmart and occasionally selsun blue in th summer! She was worth it all, I miss her so....,,
