Donating YT 500 Club Member | Dew claw I noticed when I brought Zoe home two (?) years ago that she had a dew claw. It wasn't bothering her so I kept an eye on it. The vet didn't seemed bothered with it either. Well, now it is and so I'm going to have it removed. I was just wondering how big of a problem will it be for her at this age to have it removed? I will take her to work with me if I need to, so she won't be on it so much. I hate to have her needing surgery, is it a major thing or how will they do it? I obviously haven't made the appointment yet I'm nervous. Thanks in advance.

| Poor baby this is why I wish they would do it when they are young. I know some deem it not needed but I guess each person is different. I've seen some hurt each other while playing with a dew claw and when choosing Andy that was one of the first things I asked alon with other stuff of course. I am sure wit most things older you are the more it hurts. But with proper vet care and mommy love your fur baby will be back on her feet in no time. Sorry they are giving her trouble.

No Longer a Member | How are they bothering her? Just wondering since Rizzo still has his as well...I try to be good about keeping them trimmed, but one has already gotten caught on a sweater but no damages and my vet refuses to do the procedure. Unfortunately I haven't found any other vets that I would trust to put him under again so I'm just trying to impatiently wait to move and find a vet who will listen to my concerns. I hope you baby gets better quickly after the surgery. |

| To me it falls in the category of getting a tail docked .... if they don't do it when the pup is a few days old, then don't do it later unless it has problems and gets torn or something. It is the equivalent of you getting your thumb cut off, and is much more painful for an older dog than it is for a newborn.

| If it's bothering her by getting hung up on things, getting caught in her coat....it can be dangerous as she can rip it out, cause an infection. My question to you is the dew claw solidly attached or does it appear to be loose and moveable......Either way...if it appears to be bothering her, have it removed....she will be put under for a maximum of 2 minutes.....and that's on the outside.....recovering time will probably be hours, healing 2 or 3 days.....

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks guys. Well, after I posted, I left to drop the boys off at school and ran to the grocery store. Our vet is right by there so I went in and talked to him. We decided to go ahead and remove both and get her spayed. I'd been so nervous about putting her under, but I don't want to do it twice. she's resting and I go pick her up at 4pm. I've been a nervous wreck so luckily I'd made a hair appointment already and was busy with that. I can't wait to get her home and love on her  Thanks everyone.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | HEY LADY!!!! YAY Yea she had hers and it didn't seem to bother her. but one was getting loose looking and she was always licking at it. She's do for a grooming and I didn't want it to get snagged and so I wanted to go ahead and do it now. It was definitely going to cause trouble if not.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | She's got pink wraps on her feet and we go have them looked at tomorrow. She is very calm and it's the ONLY time she's liked her purse carrier. She just wants held so it's perfect. I hope she likes it when she's feeling better, too.
