| Could she have hemorrhoids? My one yr. old yorkie" Baby"has been constantly licking her bottom the last 3 days and scooting her bottom across the floor>She is having regular bowel movements no firmer than usual. When i tried to assess her bottom i thought it looked swollen more than you would expect .Being a nurse my first thought was hemorrhoids. Is this possible? What should i do does she need a trip to the vet or will this problem resolve itself? |

| Normally when you se a dog scooting their butt along the floor like that it is either the sign of full anal glands or worms. If it is full anal glands, then they need expressed. Dogs can normally keep this done on their own, but occasionally one will need some help. Do not attempt to do this without instruction. It is one of those things that is very simple, but it is easier shown than it is told. Ask your vet to show you how. Then you can usualy take care of it on your own if it happens again. It is important to take her to the vet first time as the vet can assess if this is indeed, the problem. The vet can check her stool for signs of parasites too -- so you can find out for sure which is her problem. I really recommend a vet check. You can check her stools for signs of worms but some are microscopic so better to get a stool sample examined by the vet.

| I know that groomers can express anal glands. Mine did with our Shih Tzu. If your groomer can , then that probably would be better to have it done at the same time.
