| 1 pound Yorkie Hello everyone! I am very worried about my newest Yorkie. He only weighs 1 lb. 2 oz., is 3 months old and will not eat and continues to lose weight. I have another Yorkie (3 years old, 8 lbs.) and never dealt with such problems. I have supplemented with Nutri Cal and have force fed for the past 5 days and when I visited the vet for the third time this week, the little guy had only gained 1/2 oz. I am getting so disheartened and I'm worried that he will not gain the weight needed to survive and live a healthy doggie life. Any suggestions? Do any of you own exceptionally small Yorkies and have dealt with the same issues? Much thanks!! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome to YT. Sorry to hear about the problem with your little one not eating. Has the vet done blood work and checked for parasites or liver shunts? When I got my Cali she would barely eat and I had to coax her with chicken and cesar's canned food. She had some health issues but as she got a little older she started to eat on her own. Now she is a little chow hound. If the vet has ruled out anything medically wrong then he could just be a picky eater. I hope you can get him eating and gaining weight.

| Hello and welcome to YT Your little one is very tiny and I cannot blame you for worrying. What are you feeding him and what has the vet suggested that you do? You might need to feed many small meals a day or possibly switch foods to something that he likes better. Keep us updated to how he is doing.

| I would definitely test for a liver shunt.

| Get in touch with the breeder asap...let the breeder get this puppy back on track and then return it to you...might take a few months..I know it is hard to part wiith a companion, but for the best interest of the puppy allow the breeder to do their job.. |

| any update on how your new puppy is doing? could be parasites such as coccidia or gardia which are pretty common and can make these tiny babies very sick if not treated. have you had a fecal sample taken?
