| yellow stool on and off?? Hello Everyone, so these past two weeks, my snickers has been getting random diarrhea.. (its not everytime he poops its happened twice out of the two weeks) also we noticed yellow stool 3-4 times out of that two weeks. the other days, it is FIRM and nice looking. ahahh (talking about poop) i had his stool tested before this happened.. (he had this same diaarrhea/yellow consistancy greasy looking) and he tested negative for ALL PARASITES. so he doesnt have anything! i have tested his stool probably like 3 times already..tested negative for everything.. i am feeding him the raw (stella and chewys dandy lamb) and i recently did change it over to "duck" but i probably changed it wayyyy too fast. because that same day he had diarrhea.. so right now i am feeding him a very bland diet (rice with boneless cooked chicken) and also a little bit of pumpkin. this has happened before, and the vet pescribed me something called proviable. that didnt really help for too long. so i guess my question is, what the heck could it be if its not a parasite? could it be that he's still feeling kinda sick from the sudden food change? does it really take that many days to feel pretty good again? i changed his food on saturday. i guess i am just wondering.. do you normally have to feed the bland diet 3-4 times a day little by little. he doesnt seem to have diarrhea since saturday. but on and off his stools seem to be a BRIGHT yellow. solid but yellow?

| Yellow? If you could describe it as clay-colored, that would indicated a lack of bile in the stool. That would be caused by drainage problems in the biliary system (obstruction preventing bile drainage from the liver, pancreas, or gall bladder), or a lack of bile production.

| Does this help? Stool Color and Texture Changes: Check Your Symptoms and Signs With the Symptom Checker by MedicineNet.com I know it is written about humans, but the causes would be similar.

| And the whites of his eyes look to be a normal white? FWIW, you probably aren't dealing with a blockage, or he would be in pain. Perhaps pancreatic insufficiency? If I were you, I would get some of the yellow poop and take it to show the vet.

| A change in diet or an ingredient that doesn't agree with him could cause the diarrhea, but I don't think it would cause the yellow stools.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Our vet says yellow stool is often caused by a parasite. Tallulah has been battling this for a few weeks, too. Her last sample came out negative but we're testing again today. I almost hope they find critters so we at least know why she is having this problem. |

| Yes, it can be dietary. Go to something you are sure he has done well on for awhile and see... Other rule outs are an intestinal infection (i.e. giardia) and bile duct issues. Blood work and fecal tests can help rule these out. Sometimes vets will treat giardia w/o a positive result. If your vet knows about it and isn't concerned, then I'd try the diet change.

| hey guys, so i called the vet today, she said she wasnt concerned much with the color but more concerned about the consistancy of the stool. i told her it was on and off diarrhea and yellow stool (bright) this morning it was firm ( i did give him pumpkin) but it the whole thing was yellow!!! she said she wants to see it for herself to see what it could be, she doesnt believe it is parasites ( we tested his stool twice and found nothing) he is eating normally, not vomiting, playing. perfectly acting normal. i am just concerned that it might be his pancreas or even his liver. but she said a dog his age, she doesnt think that would be something to be concerned about. if this vet really wanted to give me a run for my money, she would tell me to get all these tests done and what not, but all she said i should do was to either bring him in for an exam or i can just bring his poop and have her look at it. she justs wants to see exactly what it looks like. i told her about the yellow color and how i thought maybe it might be a pancreatic enzyme defiecy.. she said usually taht color would be grey (i googled it, it also said it could be yellow..who knows though?) he is on the raw diet.. been feeding him lamb. could it be that maybe his body just cant handle the raw diet? when i first started him on it, he handled it fine. (solid stools) then when i changed it over to duck..he just got diaarhea like crazy. even before that its been chronic (on and off diarrhea, some days its yellow, some days it not, some days its half diarrhea and half solid) i treated both of my dogs with panacur. nothing changed.. lotus still has perfeclty normal looking stools. snickers on the other hand..been having this for awhile. i am just so confused as to what it could be, talking to vet today didnt really solve my confusion either. he is negative for all parasites.. took the most accurate stool sample for giardia. nothing. must be the diet?? i am crossing my fingers that its the diet thats causing this?

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | You've pretty well described what Tallulah has been going through. We spent an hour with the vet today. He says some parasites can be hard to find in a sample, but he thinks based on the appearance of her sample, she most likely has critters or her food is not agreeing with her. He put her on Albon to treat for parasites and sent us home with some I/B canned food to try for a few days. Here's hoping we both get tis solved soon! |

| Since you are having difficulty figuring out what it going on with Snickers, thought I would mention what Cocoa's diagnosis was when she had bright yellow poo. She has EPI...Endrocine Pancreatic Insufficiency. She cannot digest food without an enzyme in her food. It is mostly a GSD disease but it has shown up in Yorkies. She dropped down to 2.4 lbs. before K-State finally listened to me. Hope that your little one will be okay and that it will end up to be something very simple. ~Joanne~

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I have been dealing with the same problem with my dogs on and off for years now. They have been tested the poo has been tested all (neg. Results) He usually just prescribes a bland diet canned food (called ID/ I think) for several days and antibiotics. I also give them Pepto bismal... When they get yellowish stool / diarrhea and start having accidents in the house that is a sure sign that they have eaten something out in the yard that they shouldn't be eating. Rabbit poo usually/ I've seen them eat it ... Since we have had rabbit living under our shed for the past 7 years, which happens to be right beside the dog run. My main problem is trying to find which of the four dogs has the problem. When I do they are quarantines behind the gate in the kitchen with papers down for accidents. The older dogs are really good at using the papers, my youngest not so much. But in no time at all they are back to their regular ornery selves. not sure why so big !! opps
