Default Brush Your Dog's Teeth, Please.

I'm so sad. I just found out Rochester, my parents' Yorkie, went to the vet with a full set of teeth. His teeth were so bad, they had to remove most of them....and he came home with six teeth left.

My parents never took care of his teeth, and now at the age of 13 (I think), Rochester will have to gum his food.

Perhaps liquify his food? That's sad to hear! I hope he's healthy otherwise, though! But yes, thanks for the reminder!

Default Teeth brushing question

I have a new Yorkie baby - my first dog ever. What do you guys do regarding teeth brushing? I bought the all natural peanut flavored paste from Petsmart -Sophie loves it...bought the finger brushes too...her mouth is so small, my finger doesn't really fit to brush the outside of her teeth. Also, she fights me to the point that she ends up just licking the paste off my finger and none ends up in her teeth. Any suggestions?

Great reminder. Pixie my 2 1/2 year old had terrible gum disease and tartar buildup, I wasn't great at brushing, i had to have herput under to clean them and thye had to pull 5 teeth. They look great now and evry night I brush all 3 of their teeth. I use dental wipes first, then a glove that has a brush on the thumb and one finger and use an enzyme toothpaste then 3 times a week I apply Petzlife.

I'm having a hard time with Scooter too - he loves licking up his toothpaste, but hates the brush in his mouth! I tried the finger brushes too, but they are too big. I just find I can only brush the outsides of his teeth by lifting his lips, and can never get inside before he (and I) have had too much!
Any advice? Am I just supposed to put my foot down and force him to let the brush in there?

Please, everyone who is having trouble brushing, don't give up.
Try a piece of gauge with toothpaste on it until your pup allows
you to get in his/her mouth. You won't be sorry. Who's the boss
here
Also petzlife is the greatest product to keep those teeth clean and
tartar free.

Bud just had his yearly and vet said his teeth were the whitest
he has ever seen in his years of practice No tartar anywhere just
nice white teeth. He's 4 1/2. Hang in there. It will get easier I promise and you will be happy you did.

Start them young as puppies. My vet told me let them get use to having your fingers in their mouth. I also have all the stuff to take care of Suzi's teeth. However, honestly I have not been consistent. Yorkies are prone to bad dental health, and this is a great reminder to not forget.

I've started brushing Abbey's teeth but it's so hard!!! She freaks out. How often are you supposed to brush your dogs teeth? Daily? Also, what is Petzlife and how do you use it? Is it just toothpaste? Where do you get it? Abbey has terrible breath and even though I've been brushing it still stinks. Any reccomendations on curing bad breath?

I use a lot of the vet recommended dental chews! My 5 year old yorkie had one tooth pop out during his last cleaning And 1 year old Baron has already had a professional teeth cleaning (during his neuter at 9 months old). My vet said with some Yorkies there is nothing that can ward off needing regular dental cleanings. I guess some are more prone that others.
I also brush their teeth at home, but probably not as much as a should because they are such pains about it

I just brushed Pixie's teeth about 10 mins ago! She has such a tiny mouth..I can't use brushes of any sort...so I use a cotton cloth wrapped around my finger,I apply a bit of toothpaste to the cloth then gently rub her teeth..she's not too happy but pretty cooperative considering..the rest of the time I apply petzlife gel..I hope I can keep on top of her dental health..I'm going to try my hardest thats for sure!

I've tried and tried and tried brushing but mine just hate it and fight like heck.

I just started mine on Cool & Clear Dental Care by HealthyPetNet (here is the link) ProductDetail

And its only been a few days and I swear Brodie's breath is better already!

You just put 1 capful in ever 24 oz of water. Thats it! It smells real good too but is tasteless to our pets. (cats can benefit from it too)

It will slowly eat away at any tarter buildup and SAVE on taking your baby to the vet and having them put out for a cleaning.

So I'm done trying to brush! I'm soooo glad I tried this!!!!! YAY!

Breny - shouldn't this review be prefaced with the fact that you SELL this product and have a financial incentive to recommend it?
