| The popular Redbarn brand is 29 calories/inch. Fat is about 1% (slightly more on a dry matter basis). So it would depend on how much your pup actually swallows per day. If there are just teeth marks in it, then it would be fine for a diet. If there is an inch+ gone per day, then that's getting into quite a few calories for a Yorkie... I wouldn't want to be cutting back food just so more chew calories can be given because it just isn't balanced.

| That was fast. Thanks. He is so hungry I feel guilty eating anything in front of him any more. He's beginning to drool when he sees food. |

| Bully Sticks I just joined the forum after searching on-line for Free Range Bully Sticks, as they are very expensive in the stores. Laughed when I saw your post. Ordered from Amazon that will be delivered every 2 months, but you can select your dates. They come to about $1 a piece. Give these to your dogs rather than RawHides which are not good for them. Make sure they are free-range or organic to avoid all the hormones and antibiotics and other crap. |

| Did the vet tell you how much to reduce his calories? Giving any greens (lettuce, celery - probably cooked) to fill him up?

The RC seems ok, but the first 2 ingredients are white rice (which is hard to digest for humans and dogs) and corn, which is the worse ingredient you can feed dogs, especially since it is genetically modified. I told my vet I wanted to find low protien diets I could cook and he was fine with that. I'm searching for a good holistic animal nutritionist now. Know of anyone? Reading today I linked to a few sites from this blog and found some good info. Will add a little of what I read. He has absolutely no symptoms. Vet thinks it might be a liver shunt. I will definitely keep him on the kibble until I can learn more. Appreciate you responding, and I will add in celery, as that was a vegetable listed. He seems to be gaining a bit of weight from the kibble. He is not a big eater, which is a symptom of liver disfunction. Guess this is common in yorkies. | |
