Donating YT 500 Club Member | Hey Homecooks! I need some advice:) I have been thinking of homecoming for Taycie for sometime and I would really like to explore this more. I want to make sure I do it correctly and make sure she is getting all the right vitamins, minerals, to keep her healthy and happy. I am also looking to seek a vets advice but I am really struggling with finding one that supports a homecookecd diet. Any advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated!

| It's best to get a recipe from a canine nutritionist to make sure the diet is balanced and complete. We have a list of canine nutritionists pinned in the YT library (thanks to Crystal/Ellie May!). http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...itionists.html Rebecca Remmilard/Angell Memorial has recipes for as low as $25 to purchase: Welcome to Pet Diets

| Vets usually are not that into home cooking since most owners do not do it correctly. Most vets will support home cooking if you tell them you are consulting with a board certified veterinary nutritionist. Regular vets have little training in nutrition, but all of them understand what it means to be board certified and they are very respectful and deferential to the specialists. If they aren't, then that is a closed-minded vet that I'd drop (and have!). I use board certfiied vet nutritionist Dr. Remillard and think her credentials are hard to beat. For $25 as ladymom said, you can buy a diet through her website. Teddy eats the "Chicken and Brown Rice with vegetables for Dogs" that I got from there.

| homecooking My Cerise is a healthy, shiny, vibrant, 4.3lbs, 1 1/2 year old and full of love homecooking fed Yorkie! Once you feed them homecooked it is hard as heck to get them to eat any dog food I will say though tonight I made a sample I received of The Honest Kitchen "thrive" and mixed it with her homecooked chicken and she LOVED it! I think it was because it tasted like what I cook for her...same ingredients, just dehydrated. I even tasted it and it was great! For snacks I give her either fruit (no grapes or raisins) plain goat yogurt, or natural cookie biscuits. I also just found some called "good dog" in peanut butter and jelly, and she likes them. Yorkiedaze's link has a lot of good recipes that I have tried also.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I think I may have found a holistic vet in my area! I am so excited as it has been very hard to find someone that doesn't give me a hard time about food every time I see a vet. I was in a local pet food store that sells Acana, Orijen, Primal Raw.. (you know all the good stuff) and the lady who owns the store actually happened to be there. I asked her who she takes her little ones too and she recommended her to me. She said you will absolutely love her she is amazing and she actually buys her own dog's food from me! So I am going to make an appointment with her in the next 6 weeks since Taycie will be due to go in anyways. I am so excited!

I wish I could find a holistic vet here in Austin. My vet is good but he HATES homecooking for pets. He also sells Hills Diet which I believe is garbage food. Wishing you the best of luck with the new vet!
