| Problem Eater I've been fighting with Wookie the past few months with his eating habits. He always used to gobble his food up like crazy. I ended up changing his food to Wellness Fish recipe due to some allergies he had last summer. The past few months he has stopped eating his food as much. Some days he eats up and other days he may only pick at it. I've taken him to the vet and he's been cleared for liver issues, worms, and anything else. He has lost a lot of weight and is very skinny, but the vet says he is healthy besides his weight. I bought some wet food and am transitioning back to Blue Buffalo Small Bites. I'm thinking he may not like the taste of the Wellness. He gobbles the wet food up like crazy, but still doesn't seem interested in the dry. I am really hesitant to feed him strictly that because of the dental issues it causes, but he is so skinny I feel that I don't have a choice. So my questions are: does anyone else feed their Yorkie's a mostly wet food diet? and any other ideas to put weight on him?

| My first question is - what is he allergic to? My Alexander (RIP) had an allergy to the protein in chicken, so I had to find alternative kibbles for him. Maybe I can help suggest some other good quality foods that will work for your little one. Bonny

| It wasn't a food allergy, our new property management at our apartment complex starting spraying the grass with pesticides and his little feet got irritated. It went away as soon as we moved.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What about mixing the wet with dry, for every meal since he likes the wet? Nothing wrong with that, esp if he needs to gain weight. Wet food adds some variety in taste, and gives some hydration too. You could try feeding an extra meal too, in order to help him gain weight. Maybe give him a little something before bed time...? If peanut butter agrees with him, you could give him a little finger lickin' of that a couple times a day. And/or put peanut butter in a Kong toy.

| He likes peanut butter. I tried mixing the wet with the dry, but he just picks all the wet food out and leaves the dry. The other day I put the wet in first and sprinkled the dry on top. He proceeded to topple the dish over to get to the wet food. I don't understand his sudden aversion to dry food! His breeder never gave him wet food and neither did I!

No Longer a Member | Try sprinkling a little bit of parmesean cheese and mixing it in with the dry food, I find this helps when Rizzo decides he doesn't feel like eating his food anymore. I find the more smell the food has the quicker he is to gobble it up. You could also nuke it for just a few seconds after sprinkling the cheese in there. Just make sure the cheese is well grated so he can't just pick out the cheese and leave behind the food |
