| 11 weeks and quit eating his food. Help! My Louie is 11 weeks old and weighing 1.78 lbs. The breeder was feeding him Royal Canin 28 (yorkie puppy type) She was having me mix 1/2 tbsp of Cesar soft puppy food to help coat the kibble. For the first week or so Louie ate it with no issues. Second week he only ate some of it. Now, he is barely eating any and I am getting very upset. Tonight I gave him some of the Cesar puppy soft food alone --and he ate it like he was starving. I've been reading the forum about types of high quality dog food and I am going to order some tonight if I can figure out which to order. LOL. Must I buy a food specifically for puppies? Anything I should avoid while he is so young? Thank you so much for any help you offer, as I am a first time yorkie owner. Actually, I'm a nervous first time Yorkie owner. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Congratulations! And Welcome to YT! Yorkies are notorious for being picky, I know many have struggled with this. Yes, you need something formulated for puppies, or all life stages. There are many out there that feed a certain brand of dog food with wonderful results but not one food works for every dog. You just have to find what works for you! I like Acana,Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, The Honest Kitchen, Wellness, Castor and Pullox, Pinnacle.. Just to name a few Since he is so little, I would definetly buy some Nutri-Cal and keep it on hand. Yorkies are prone to Hypoglycemia and if he looses his appetite his blood sugar can drop causing devistating effects. It also will help stimulate the appetite as well. For me, when I get nervous I always make a quick phone call to my vet. Yes, I have the number on speed dial. And when I brought Taycie home I was a nervous wreck. For me it always eased my mind to seek professional advice if I was concered at all. Hope this helps!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome and congrats in your baby. It is crucial that Louie eat several meals each day while he is so young and small. I had the same problem when I brought Cali home at 9 weeks. She refused to eat a lot of the time and when she did she would only eat the cesar's. She went hypoglycemic on me several times. Once I got her eating better I switched her to California Natural. I fed her canned until she was older and then added the kibble. The main thing is to get food into him. I would have the vet check him out for any underlying problems. Like Emily said get Nutrical and make sure you watch for any signs of hypoglycemia. I hope he starts eating better soon.

| You've received some great advice so far. Yes, the important thing is for him to eat be it Ceasar or otherwise. I would gradually switch him over to something with better nutrition but with him being new, I would take it slowly. Keep in mind, he's had soooo many changes in his little lifetime already. Congrats on your baby and it sounds as though you are being a very good yorkie mom!

| Thank you very much for the responses. I will continue to feed him the Cesar while I try to research a bit more about what I need to get him on. I've been leaving out the dry kibble just in case he might decide to have a bite or two but he isn't touching it. I really appreciate the warm welcome the board is giving to a new member. You are all very kind. |

| Have you tried, hand feeding him??? Putting the kibble in your hand, holding it for him, and giving it to him?? I do this with both of my dogs, and honestly they both think that they are getting treats, when in fact its just their dog food disguised as treats. Good luck!!!

If he'll eat the Ceasars and his poos are good, don't change a thing until he is a bit older, weighs more, and you know/understand his tummy better. The important thing at his age/wt is to keep him eating, and hydrated. You can always switch and try new/better foods later . No hurry.

| Hello and welcome. When I got Kody the breeder was giving him a mix of purina puppy chow and ceasar wet. He would only eat the wet food and pick with the purina. I spoke with the vet about this and immediately switched to Royal Canine for baby up to 20 lbs. The kibbles were much smaller and he loved it. Also was advised to leave the Ceasar alone because it wasn't needed and it was a low quality wet pet food as was the purina. Also I started him on Nutrical a fingertip full a day - just in case. |

| I agree. The most important thing is that your pup is eating. Also very important is that the food he gets the majority of the time is AAFCO for puppies or for all life stages. Ceasars puppy formulas should fall into this category. You can start to mix another kibble in, but if he just wants the canned, he is less picky than a lot of pups. When he does get older, it would be best to enforce the high quality food issue a little more.

| Just wanted to say thank you again to those who responded. He is doing good on the Cesar puppy so I am just going to let him eat it until he gets a little bit of size on him. Until then, I'm going order the samples of the better quality foods and see what I might eventually get for him. |
