| Need some suggestions about food please Lulu has been on Royal Canin from day one. (I know many don't like RC, but let's not debate that, please ) She has done incredibly well on it & has never even had one loose stool, EVER. She always ate it well & never gave me any trouble with not wanting to eat. She had luxating patella surgery Dec 28th (3 weeks ago) and at first she was eating fine after the surgery. However, this past week she has become disinterested in her food. I have to intice her to eat by sprinkling parmesan on her food. She will then eat, but not as much as before. I know since she is on crate rest, she may not need as much food but it has me worried. She is acting normally in every other way...pees & poops normal, etc. My dh and I are going to get some wet food to see if she will eat that mixed with her kibble. So, I'm looking for some suggestions. I thought about NV since we have a farm store just down the road that carries it. I thought if she likes the canned, then we could possibly switch her to the kibble as well. I just don't know. Then I thought about doing NV Raw but I know nothing about that. Since Lulu has never experienced any tummy issues, I am scared to introduce something new but I feel it may be necessary. Or perhaps we should wait to see if this is a phase? IDK what to do!

| I use Taste of the Wild and have for the past 2+ years with fantastic results. It is an all life stages food and I have raised 3 litters of healthy happy pups on it. If the farm supply store happens to be Tractor Supply they carry Taste of the Wild - both dry and canned. |

| The store isn't Tractor Supply, but a local family owned "feed & seed" store. However, I do think the carry TOTW as well. I know they carry several of the premium foods. I'll look into TOTW. Thanks!

| I just wanted to thank you for replying to my post with your suggestion. We decided to get the TOTW canned & kibble for Lulu to try. Unfortunately, they didn't have sample bags of kibble so we had to buy a full bag...but it was only $10 so that isn't bad at all. I mixed the Royal Canin kibble in with the TOTW canned & Lulu ate every bit of the canned & left every single RC kibble. For the next meal I gave her the TOTW kibble & she ate it quite well. Its a little hard for her to chew but she takes her time & gnaws on one kibble at a time. She seems to really like it. My only concern is that she isn't taking in any of her RC. I know you are supposed to transition foods slowly but she won't eat any of the RC that is mixed with the new food. I'm hoping she won't get an upset tummy. She's never had any tummy troubles and I don't want to start now.

| Just seeing this thread -- Jackson never has done the slow transition thing either, lol. He always picks out new food. I think it's fine. You MAY see some upset stomach for a few days, but most dogs can handle it just fine, so just give it some time for her system to get used to it. I think TOTW is a great choice for the price! I'd feed it, but I'm pretty happy with Orijen right now. I also like and have fed Go! Endurance, Wellness Core, and Nature's Variety with GREAT results. Just giving you some more ideas. Keep us updated on the TOTW. Which flavor did you get?

| Update! I thought I would come back to this post and update it on how Lulu is doing with her new food. As I stated previously, she didn't do the slow transition because she would pick around her old food to eat the new food. Despite that, she did not experience any tummy upset and never had a loose stool! She is now happily eating a mix of canned & kibble TOTW (High Prarie). I do have to chop up the kibble because they are too big for her to chew. She can chew them, but it takes her so long that she ends up eating only one or two at a time. So, I simply chop up some kibble and store in in a tupperware bowl. Then I mix some of the canned and kibble together twice a day (morning and night). I also leave some kibble out for her at all times and she eats that occassionally. Thank you to all who took the time to recommend the different foods. I really appreciate all the information provided.
