| For Those Who Have Seniors For those that have senior Yorkies, how often are they seen at the Vet for a check-up? I was talking with a few friends of mine and was telling them I take mine every 3 months for a check-up and blood work just to keep on top of things. They told me I too obsessed with it. Am I being too over protective? With loosing two recently so close together. My Lizzie will be 14 next month and I'm thinking about taking her in once a month just for a look see. Of course they are alway's at the Vet at any indication of a problem.

| I have two seniors, (11 years and the other possibly older....she's a foster) although they aren't Yorkies, the Vet. thinks they should be seen every six months, otherwise once a year.

| Ellie is nine. She has bloodwork yearly. Should be twice a year. Every 3 months is fine and you will have a better chance of catching things early, but it is not considered necessary unless a health problem is present that the vet wants to monitor. Personally, I would not do it every 3 months. Ellie is seen for things a couple-few times a year though. She also spends some time at her vet office around her doctor too.

| I don't have a senior anymore, but when Ashley was alive, I took her to the vet every two months on the average--sometimes a little more often when needed, sometimes a little less, but it was what was best for me. Her doctor did not think it was necessary, but my husband and I felt better about it so that we could be proactive about things. When Ashley was sixteen, we realized she had CCD, which is like Alzheimer's in humans. She had other health issues but she remained a very happy little girl until she died right before she would have been seventeen. She was still walking a couple of miles a day weather permitting and was in fairly good health. I didn't do the bloodwork every two months, but had it done if she was sick or having surgery, usually a couple of times a year. I know I was obsessive, but it was right for us. If my husband had it his way, he would have had her checked out every month but he was unable to take her on his own. I was comfortable with every two months on the average. Since they can't tell us what's wrong, I preferred to be able to catch something before it had a chance to get worse. I completely understand your worries, especially considering your losses. I am so sorry about losing both of your babies and I hope Lizzie stays healthy and happy for a long time.

| I think taking them in every three months at that age is an excellent idea. I took my Alexander in last September for a complete exam, and his bloodwork results were excellent. His doctor was very impressed at how good his results were. Alexander passed away suddenly three months later on December 16th of what we suspect was a stroke. In my opinion, there is no being too careful when it comes to our yorkies. I'm so sorry about the loss of your babies. I can't imagine losing two so close together like that. Sending hugs to you. Bonny
