| Fish oil for dry skin I've tried fish oil in the past for the girls but haven't had much luck. Riley doesn't care for it on her food, whether I squeeze a capsule or buy the bottle of oil. And then, of course, when she does finally eat it, she runs all over the house and wipes her oily face all over the furniture, carpet, and her beds. However, her skin gets so dry in the winter that it flakes. We ran out of her good conditioner last week and kicked off the cycle of flakes I found these Omega-3 chewables. The big difference in ingredients between the gel caps and the chewables is the lack of actual fish oil in the chewables, but they do have the two Omega-3s. I am not familiar enough with this subject to determine if this would be enough to help her. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? |

| We use Nordic Naturals Omega-3 fish oils for pet. All three of mine like it. It's not that fishy smelling.

| I have been using the Solid Gold Seameal for Levi's dry itchy skin. Between the seameal and adding a liitle canned food to his kibble he has improved. His coat looks much better.

So.... they are getting both EPA and DHA from fish oil which is the best; and if they are eating them, I would definitely continue. As the Omega 3's are something that has to build up within the body in order to prevent dry and itchy skin. It is not something that will show immediate benefits from one or two uses. It must be used consistently and over time.

| I hadn't heard of this yet; I wonder if she would be bothered by the powder. Thank you for the tip! |

Lol...sorry, I see your query now! The DHA and EPA are the two active ingredients that you want, whether suspended within the fish oil, or extracted and placed into chewable form. These two fatty acids are the workhorses that perform the maintenance in skin repair and produce the anti-inflammatory assistance. The fish oil is essentially just the medium which contains the fatty acids. Both the gels and the chewables contain the same amount of these properties so that is great. Plus they both contain Tocopherols which is a form of Vitamin E needed when supplementing with fish oil fatty acids EPA and DHA ; do to the metabolism of E during the absorbtion of these fatty acids. Normally the "fish oil" gels contain more EPA and DHA than the chewables but these are equal in their mg, so if they are working for your pups I would continue using the chewables. Especially if you do not have to deal with little oily mouths...

| I squirt flaxseed oil in Hannah's food. She eats the kibble with oil on it first. The dog food soaks up the oil. Does wet dog food help with the itchy scratchies? |
