| I need your advice I posted earlier that I was worried that my little guy might need bladder stone surgery...They did an ultrasound and no stones were found...a real answer to prayer! He seems to be developing artheritis. Is stiff and limps after laying for a long time. Seems to be happening more often now that the weather is cold. It breaks my heart to see him limp. He usually gets better after a few minutes of walking around. He is hyper and "crazy". However, he is already on 3 types of medication to prevent the bladder stones. He also has a history of pancreatitis and has had some "reactions" to medications in the past. I am really afraid to put him on another medication (to treat the artheritis) I am so afraid of upsetting his system and doing anything to bring on another round of pancreatits or doing anything to make the bladder stone problem worse. It took the vet many trials and errors to come up with the right "balance" for him. I spoke to the vet briefly and he said the treatment would involve injections. Am I wrong for not pursuing artheritis medication? I just don't want to do anything to hurt him or cause pain. Thanks |

| Wow. I would seriously consider getting a second opinion. Maybe even a third. There are ways you can help your pup with his arthritic problems beside "medication". Diet is useful. Perhaps see a homeopathic vet or at least a different one for a second opinion. Just curious, if the ultra soound shows no stones then why is he taking medicine? Sounds like he doesn't have a bladder stone problem after all. As for the said limping. My girl is three she will be four on March 3 2011. I have noticed stiffness when she gets up from a nap or a sleep as well. She doesn't have arthritis. Just stiff. We can get stiff too and not have arthritis. Think you dog well Ma'am and he will be, instead of ailments. Ten years is not That old! The vet told me once that my dog has that hip dyspepsia thing. When he seen her when she was two. He claimed that when we are walking she may just stop because her joint might lock up. Never happens. She is fine. Spry and spunky. Totally mobile. As for pancreatits. I am a firm believer that we can switch ailments from bad to good, simply with diet. Look closely at what you feed your dog. Research all ingredients. Choose wisely and holistically. Best to you and your loving pup! |

| As we spoke, I am glad that your little guy does not need surgery. I agree, I would probably get a second opinion. I know that pancreatitis can be managed through diet so that would alleviate one medication. I would think that stones can also be managed thru diet. I have a friend who has a silky and he had over 100 stones (!!!) removed. He was put a strict diet. Fortunately for her he likes this food. It is a dry food so he gets this as treats as well. I do not know about the arthritis as sometimes anti-inflammatory may be the only way to go. As a sufferer myself, I know how much better I feel when I take my meds for it. But if getting the other 2 things under control will get him off meds, maybe it wouldn't be so stressful on him to take something for the arthritis? Good luck with finding something that will work for your little guy.
