| Baby food? I have always had trouble getting gastby to eat he will eat really well for a while then he will starve himself(normally when he is already a little anemic) The vet said to give him yogurt in his food (taste of the wild) and that works for a few weeks then he will not eat for a day or two then one day he will just start up again (normally after losing about a pound of weight) well a lady at the grocery store told me to try some meat and fruit baby food meat one day and fruit the next well i have some in the house because i feed turkey chicken and beef to my cat and banana, apple, kiwi, pear, any mixture of the four to my gecko turtle and guinea pig as a treat. so i gave it a try and he did indeed eat his food better i could put about a tablespoon of turkey/banana baby food in his bowl and he gobbled the whole thing down Is it okay to give him baby food? I have tried: -putting some water or chicken broth in his food to soften it,it dose not help -putting canned food in his food to make it more appetizing, he hates canned food he will not eat even a mouth full -rice and chicken breast in his kibble,he picks around the kibble and leaves the rest in the bowl I was home-cooking but the pet nutritionist decided Gatsby would benefit more from a commercial food (he has bad spells of anemia) I was doing everything right but from what she said its just not a great option for all dogs. he has been on the taste of the wild for 6+ months i free fed him the Taste of the wild even before i stopped home cooking he would eat it then in fact he would pass on his home-cooked food for the taste of the wild

| I give mine baby food- just make sure there is no onion or or onion powder in the food- some of the meat foods have it. I add the fruit and veggie ones to their food a lot, they love it! oh also- the fruit blends sometimes have grape juice in them so watch for that too. |

| It has onion in it and sodium so its really not good for them but when you are desperate for them to eat it can be helpful. I dont think you should use it long term though

Donating YT 500 Club Member | yes! Baby food is wonderful thing! My sister used to work in a vet office and they would often offer baby food to a animal that was recovering from surgery or had a poor appetite. It would help "wet" the appetite and get them to eat their food! It is great to use when you are trying to coax them to eat. I know use canned food mixed with her regular food but I like to occasionally give it as a treat. I love it! I usually buy the meat, either chicken, beef or turkey! |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | You can find some baby foods now that do not have onion or other seasonings. But I swear by homemade chicken and rice. It's not all that much work to do -- I just put a skinless chicken breast (to avoid too much fat) and water to cover in my crockpot and let it cook until it's ready to fall apart. You could also simmer on the stove but then you have to keep an eye on it. Then I steam some white rice - no butter or salt - only water. Once cooked, I put equal amounts of rice and chicken in the blender and pulverize so the dog can't pick out all the meat and leave the rice behind. I add enough of the broth to make it baby-food consistency. The one and only time (knock wood) I've had to do this for Tallulah, I cooked up half a dozen chicken breasts to make a fairly large batch and froze individual containers with a day's worth of food. She absolutely loved the stuff and ate whatever I would give her. I gradually phased her regular food back in by mixing it well with the chicken and rice until she was back on the pet food. I would say that onion-free baby food is definitely better than no food at all. I would not want to have my dog on it - or the homemade chicken/rice mixture for the long term because it is not balanced for the dog's nutritional needs. |

| Stormy wouldn't eat a couple of months ago and that's what the vet had me do. As it's been suggested, just make sure it doesn't have onion or onion powder in it. My vet recommended the carrot one and that's really the only one I've been able to find with water being the only other ingredient. Stormy loves it |

| Baby food meats and veggies are a great way to start out feeding new puppies, or for pets recovering from sickness or operations and so on, but not for long term use as it just doesn't have the nutritional requirements dogs need. You could grind up a nice roast, cook it then blend it with fresh carrots & green beans, add some beef broth, to a nice mush and start him out with that and gradually just make it less mushy till it's finally chunky. (You can also put the roast in the crock pot/slow cooker till it's falling apart, then use some of that broth to blend with the meat and veggies).

| Yes the meat baby food is okay for a short period. Just like others have said here, vets do use it when dogs have had surgery or other sickness. Mine is coming out of a sickness (too many chicken treats) and when the vet was trying to get him to eat that is one of the foods the Vet brought out. Although he would not eat it then, but has in the past when he was younger. He did eat the can chicken they brought out though. LOL |
