| yorkie feeding because of ear problem and teeth questions Im new here so I have no idea if there are similar questions to mine but here it goes! ok so I need to change their food to something more healthier specially for their teeth since Ive heard this kind of breed have many problems with their teeth later in life. Chewy is 7 pounds and he is VERY picky and he usually suffers from ear infections and sometimes it just goes away by itself in a day or two but sometimes it just gets so ugly cause he scratches and shakes his head very frequently. Vet said if it keeps on happening that I should change his food. Obi he is 9 pounds and he eats anything!!! lol so im sure he will be ok if I was to change their food. Right now they both eat (please don't judge) science diet dry small bites and I mix it with pedigree little champions wet food. They are not too crazy for dry only food but maybe because science diet is not that good dry! I bought this two because a friend told me those are good but Ive been reading that those two are really BAD : ( So what do you all think is a good food for them? can you share the exact name if possible. How should I go about on changing the food? I've been searching and so far im torn between Taste of the Wild - Pacific Stream Canine Formula with Smoked Salmon - Dry Dog Food or California Natural Lamb Meal & Rice Adult Small Bites Dry Dog Food. but I don't know if this are good or If there is a better one, is there? is there such a thing as too much protein in their food? : ) -One question about their teeth I want to brush them as much possible but its so hard because none of them like to keep their mouth open : (. So how can I make this without me going ontop of them everytime? lol (sarcastically saying) Thank you in advance : ) |

| Welcome to YT! Of the two food choices you've narrowed it down to, I prefer the TOTW. I fed it to my little crew for a long time and they did great on it (and they loved eating it ). The protein amount in the TOTW Pacific Stream formula is very reasonable at only 25%, so that shouldn't be a concern with this food. Good luck with your choices!

| I don't feed dog food so can't help you there. I know that Castor & Pollux is one that LadyJane likes and feeds to many of her dogs and they do excellently. Don't beat yourself up about Science Diet. I disagree that it is a bad food and it is not a bad company - but it hasn't been the greatest for yorkies due to some of the ingredients and many like other foods better. As for teeth brushing - Make it fun! We like to use the CET vanilla mint toothpaste by Virbac. My dogs readily accept the toothbrush and it has paid off. Barney is 10 years old and has teeth as white as a puppy and has never needed a professional dental! I also give lots of treats that help to clean the teeth like baby carrots, celery, and bits of apple. Here is Teddy's video of how he likes to brush his teeth and you can see he is very good at it.
