YorkieTalk Newbie! | cherokee Looking for some answers for sickly Yorky? tummies. About once a month or two my 5 lb cherokee rescue gets sick. Does not throw up, no diareaha just whines and crys, has loud stomach noises. He will not eat or drink during this period.. It lasts about 24 hours then he seems ok. Maybe I should say what else he has. I rescued him 2 1/2 years ago off the street and no one claimed him. He has severe itching and have changed his food about 8 times, he is now on Hills KD and it is not helping either. He has had his teeth cleaned but his mouth smells horrid. His body also has a bad odor even with bathing every 4 days. I have an idea there is something wrong within the stomach area. Vet says prob about 6 yrs old now and has alergies. He is not pure Yorky, has legs with no hair, long hair on body but thin now from scratching. He gets Omega 3 in his vitamins. I believe he has been abused and hurt, hind legs seem to hurt. Does anyone have any clues for me? Vet bill about beyond my wallet now. |

| Maybe changing the food so many times is just too much. Hill's KD is pretty low protein - why is he on that? Is he suffering from heart or kidney issues? Regarding the smell - I'm not sure what to say about that other than digestive problems can create bad breath or odors in dogs and that is usually something that needs at least an ultrasound and complete blood work up to figure out, as a start. Maybe it's time for another vet to take a look? Like a specialist (internist)? I know you said the vet bills are high and I'm sure they are but it sounds like Cherokee is not in a good way. Best wishes

| Have you tried giving him some plain yogart. I know my Kayla has a very sensitive tummy and it helps her alot. I give her about a teaspoon at a time. Hope he gets better. Its hard having one sick. Some really good shampoo & conditoner might help with the smell and hair regrowth. I bought the shampoo & conditoner on HSN from the guy from Italy. Can not remember his name, but they put out pet products as well as the human creams etc. for women. I bought the vanilla which was great. Kayla's hair is growing like crazy on her back legs where she had lost hair from allergeries. It looks so healthy and smells wonderful. Hope this might help. |
