| Alfie drinking lots and now peeing on his bed. Alfie is 13 months weighs about 4.5kg and is generally very healthy apart from a few months back when he was being sick and had very runny poo. T he vet said it was something he ate probably from the garden and he was given 3 injections and made a quick recovery. The last 3 mornings I have come down to him to find pee on the floor, which is certainly not like him, especially on his bed. He has been house trained since he was about 4 or 5 months. He is also drinking alot and he's never been one for drinking much but its something I've noticed again the last few days. In himself he seems ok, gets excited when someone comes in etc but he is also sleeping more. I am sat at the dining table and he is on my lap now, never done that before, he's asleep. I have made an appointment with the vet and seeing her tomorrow afternoon. Of course my mind is racing and I'm thinking diabetes. When I was a child my parents had a dog that had diabetes but he was a bit overweight and was about 8 years old. Can anyone put my mind at rest? Diabetes is something that old fatter dogs get isn't it? Kind regards Lorraine and Alfie x x

| Well, he should be checked for diabetes to be safe, it's unlikely but possible. If he's having more frequent urination, along with increased drinking, he could have a Urinary Tract Infection, which I think is more likely than diabetes. And then too he may be having a kidney or bladder problem. Keep us posted after you see the vet.... sorry I couldn't help too much...

| My Lady has been diabetic since she was 6.5 years old. You are right, Alfie doesn't fall into the group that is most at risk for diabetes (middle aged, overweight dogs with a genetic predisposition for diabetes). Diabetes can always be caused by repeated bouts of pancreatitis or steriods, too. There is such a thing as juvenile diabetes in dogs, but it is more common in unspayed females. It could be something as simple as a urinary tract infection. Let us know what the vet says. |

| Thank you both for your prompt replies. I shouldn't worry and its probably something that can be easily treated and he will be running around again in a couple of days. You know what its like though when they're not themselves. I will report back about this time tomorrow.

| Hi, Sorry this is the earliest I've been able to get online. Alfie has blood in his urine, he had blood tests and they have come back ok. He is on antibiotics for 10 days and then 3 days after he finishes them he needs another urine test to see if blood is still in it. I'm just glad I hadn't left it too long before \i took him to the vets. He's always a good boy in there and gives the vet and nurses lots of kisses even after they took blood from him. He is getting even more cuddles than usual. I will give up an up date when he has finished his tablets. Many thanks as always for your help, advice and support. Lots of love Lorraine x x
