| Excersize and Food: Please help I was just wondering how much excersize most yorkies need. I have no idea how much to give Vinny. Vinny is 13 years old. I am also not sure how much to feed him. He usueally gets about half a cup of food per day, plus small snacks. Please help. Loving owner of Vinny |

| With Vinny being 13, exercise probably just depends on how HE feels. I mean, I walk Jackson every week day for at least 30 minutes, but try for 45 minutes. He gets about 15 minutes of fetch every day (either w/ ball or frisbee). Approximately 10-20 minutes of trick training per day. At least 1-2 visits to the dog park a week (sometimes more in the summer) where we try to stay for 2 hours each time. A visit over to my dads house once or twice a week (w/ a big fenced in yard with 2 other dogs, where he runs ALOT). Sometimes there's more, sometimes there's less, but it all just depends. But keep in mind, Jackson is only 1.5yrs old. With Vinny being 13, I'm sure that much exercise is not required of him... but I don't know how energetic he is, or how healthy. Also, Jackson is 16lbs (not overweight) and eats a little over 1/2 cup per day (the bag recommends 1 cup or more, but he just doesn't seem interested in eating more). He gets quite a few treats too so that's why he eats less food.

| Thanks for the help both of you! Vinny is healthy (OK maybe a little overweight) and he plays once in a while. . . he's not very active, but maybe that is because he needs more exercise. |

| It's wonderful to hear when a 13 yr old is healthy and happy. A little bit of walking is good for them as long as they want to do it and it makes them happy.

| We have a 10 year old and he gets a cup and a qtr of dry per day and sometimes we add chicken broth or rice or chicken breast to it as a special treat. He loves to go out and run (without the leash in the backyard--about an hour to hour and a half each day) and loves to go walking (20-30 mins on his leash through the neighborhood). The vet noted that on his xrays he was starting to develop a little arthritis in his back but said it was common for that to start to appear with his age. We also have him on a half tablet of agility each day (he thinks it's a treat!) |

| when you walk vinny, does he stop when he is tired? when i walk milu, she will slow down and just stop walking when she doesnt want to walk anymore. i usually have to pick her up and carry her from that point on. if vinny also lets you know when he is tired, then you can just walk him till he lets you know that he doesn't want to walk anymore. otherwise, maybe just start going on short walks with him and gradually make the walks longer and see how he does. is he taking any supplements for his arthritis? it might be a good idea to give him some supplements to keep his arthritis under control (so it doesn't get worse)
