What is best for putting on weight? I just got a yorkie, who came from horrible living conditions :( anyway she is underweight, I can feel every bone etc, the back hips are the worst, you can SEE them above her coat, and judging from the size of her, she needs about 2 pounds put on. What is the best thing I Can feed her to fatten her up? is there people food that would quickly do the trick (cottage cheese maybe?) poor thing, she was so neglected :( |

Use a high quality kibble. Let her put on the weight back gradually over a period of a month or two. You could sprinkle some lowfat parmesan cheese on the food to entice her appetite. If you haven't had her vet checked do so, to make sure no worms or other underlying health issues. |
Here's my story: A few months ago, I got a 5 month old puppy from a horrible breeder. We named him Beckham. He, too, was so bony you could feel every single bone. This poor little guy was so unsocialized, that to this day (4 and a half months later) is still very scared of everyone. He came with kennel cough and diarreah. He tested positive for giardia and was put on medication. The diarreah cleared up - but to this day he still has loose stools. Although he has gained some weight (.5 lb within the first week) , I have yet to find a dog food that totally agrees with him. So my advice is go easy on any changes of food for this dog. If he is to gain weight he will. Major changes can be hard on this dog. Good luck! |
thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. |
