| Grade 2 LP I took Kingston to the vet today for his annual check-up and the vet said he has Grade 2 LP. She referred me to a surgeon that specializes in LP. She said that he may or may not need to have surgery. She said some dogs who do have the surgery sometimes get it back. Does anyone have a dog with a Grade 2 LP that didn't have surgery? I'm debating if I should go through with the surgery. I'm only hesitant because it's a lot of money and there's a chance it might come back.

| Mine was diagnosed a few years ago and I never had the surgery for her. Hers is a low grade also, but it doesn't seem to bother her. I hardly ever notice it. The only time I do notice it is when she has been sleeping and lying down for a long time and she goes to get up - and not all the time. She goes on walks - fine. She doesn't climb or jump or run - but I think that's just her personality. She's pretty calm. If it doesn't bother them - then why have it done?

| Mine will hike up his right hind leg for 3-4 steps at a time when we go on walks. It looks like he's skipping. He doesn't yelp in pain and still loves to run and jump. I'm guessing he doesn't need the surgery if it doesn't bother him? |

| Please don't assume he's not in pain. Do a search here for luxating patella and read all the posts. Here's one thread you can start with. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...hree-legs.html

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have one with grade 4 in both and it doesn't seem to bother her yet. She is 5 1/2 years old. Then Pixie who is almost 5, suddenly couldn't walk a few months ago and was diagnosed with grade 3 in her left knee. After 3 vets and an ortho surgeon saying she needed it she had the surgery. I would just watch him to see if it' gets worse. Also, try and limit his jumping on and off furniture by using ramps or stairs. I would ask your vet if he should be on a joint supplement too. Hopefully he will never need the surgery.

If it was my baby, and he was favoring his leg, I would definitely start seeking the opinion of orthopedic surgeons.

Definitely keep an eye on it. I'd get Toby the surgery in a heart beat if this was affecting his quality of life. He's lost 1.1 lbs and that has made a big difference. We still have a couple pounds to go but we'll get there. He's at 10 lbs. right now.

| I have 2 with a grade 4 in one and a grade 3 in the other and one with both knees a grade 3 and have not and will not have the surgery as long as they are not showing any pain or discomfort. I control it with keeping their weight off and have been for the last 3 years. They haven't popped out in 3 years One is 7 the other is 6 and the other is 4 years of age If you keep the weight off and continue to supplement and exercise I think you can do well without the surgery. I know it's worked for my 3 Donna |
