| Bad Tick Bite I am so upset cause on Monday late afternoon DH found a tick on Ruby on her chest by her right front arm, if that makes sense. It was a big fat tick-nasty-and a dark red circle around the area. I called the vet because the red rim circle really bothered me. I mean I was not happy about the tick, never had one before (she 3 1/2 now) but the tech I spoke to said not to worry to remove the tick with tweezers etc So I went to do that and it didn't want to come out so my DH did it and I held Ruby. He had to yank real hard. He got it and pulled a few hairs out too she didn't whine or yelp or anything but there was a big lump. So on Tuesday evening after work I check the spot and it is big and hard. Call the vet back and they say it is common for a tick bite and that could last for a couple weeks. She told me what to look out for-lameness, excessively tired and watch to make sure the lump doesn't get bigger. Has this happened to anymore? The lump is big and red.

| He is warning you about lameness and excessive tiredness because those would be signs of Lyme Disease. If it does happen, it is easily treated with antibiotics. Just do like they said and watch it. I would be concerned, too, but hopefully it will heal normally and you won't have any other issues, but if it gets worse just bring her into the vet.

| Sophie had got bit by a tick when she was about 8 months old. And it did leave a hard bump in the location of the tick once it was removed. It stayed for awhile, too. I can't recall how long, but I remember thinking long enough that I was going to call the Vet if it wasn't gone in "x" number of days.

| Yeah, this is common. It depends on how hard you pulled the tick out and stuff too. Certain ticks were harder to get off of Jackson than others and we had to work at it to make sure we got the legs off, etc. I remember him having a few little tiny bumps/scabs where we pulled the tick off. Ticks are so common around here, they are all over the place, so even though I'm used to it (Jackson's had probably 10 in his lifetime, he's 2), it still grosses me out!! Jackson did have Lymes disease and came up limping and was treated with antibiotics for 30 days. Thankfully, we only saw one tick this summer since switching to K9 Advantix.
