| Is this bad? Hi everyone! It has been a while since I last posted, but I have been really busy and Sam is just doing so well! Lately though he started chewing on our woodwork in the corners. I actually found pieces of wood in his stool! I tried using bitter apple and that works for a little while, but I want to know if this is normal. He also has a problem with eating his stool. I tried giving him deter and that didn't work. I don't want to change his food b/c it's all natural (Performatrin Ultra). I mean if I have to do it I will, but it's so good for him. His little snout is always wet b/c he's constantly sniffing underneath the kitchen cabinets and chewing on wood! I'm wondering if he's not getting enough exercise. We don't walk that much, but he sure does run like a madman through our house chasing the cat. I think I'm going to try taking him for a walk everyday and see if that helps, but if anyone has any experience on this I would really appreciate it!

| my little apple had the same problem. she chewed up every baseboard corner in the house. we got bitter apple and sprayed them every day and after a few weeks she didn't even look at them. but i would say maybe you need to walk him more or make a play time to really wear him out because im sure he is doing it out of boardem. |

| With the horses, they tell us, if they chew wood, or eat the poop, it is because they are lacking something in the diet, like the wood chewing , would be because they are lacking roughage.

| Although I agree with horse and hound AND BY THE WAY, WELCOMETO YT!!!)that sometimes poop and wood eating is a warning that something is missing in the diet, I have come to the goofy conclusion with both my horses and dogs that some of them just like the taste of wood. A good long walk sounds like a good stress releiver for BOTH you and Sam. And a variety of safe chew toys might help deter him from chewing the woodwork. If you are find wood chips in his stool, please check his mouth regularly, they can get splinters in their gums which cause infections. GOOD LUCK! |

| Thanks for all of your advice! I have to get Sam more food tomorrow b/c we ran out today and I'm thinking it's time to switch to the adult food (he will be 9 months in a few days). Is this a good time you think? Will this maybe give him what he is lacking or is the food really not any different? I am definitely going to try more walks and thanks for the input on the splinters in his mouth...I didn't even think of that (I feel like such a bad mommy) I will let you know how everything works out!

| Roxy and TJ both still eat poop. I am trying the ACCENT in their food 2x a day, again. It sort of worked before, so I am trying it again. Also, they both go through fazes of chewing on wood. The room that they stay in during the day while I am at worked is dubbed the 'padded room' b/c I have taken pieces of cardboard wrapped in fabric and have outlined the whole room b/c they have chewed up all the corner wood moulding and the wood door and the wood baby gate! Also, just the other day now, I found that they started to chew at my wood bed post in my room. I put some of my BF's clear deodorant on the spot and hopefully it will deter them from attacking it any further! I think is it bordom. I also found they are naughing on their plastic litter box. It is always something! |

| You can try something call missing link that you get at the pet store. It helps with skin problems too.

| I need Help 2 My little guy did this in our rental apartment, and now we are having to sand the baseboards before we move out. I'm moving to a rental house until my house is built, so I would hate for him to do this again. They tell me that they do this sometimes out of "Boredum" ? If they are home alone during the day? What is the bitter apple thing, I need to get whatever it is so that I could spray it on to this new place we are moving into before he starts doing it there.

| Wow I didn't know this was so common, but I feel better knowing there's nothing really wrong with my little guy. I think I'm going to try that missing link stuff b/c I read about it before and it sounds good. What's weird with Sam is that he doesn't do it during the day while he's in the kitchen...it's only when we're around and during play time. I will try to distract him and throw balls and play with his favorite squeaky toy, but sometimes that doesn't even work. He hasn't done it too much in the past few days. We'll see what happens when I try this stuff. Anyway, do you think it is too young (9 months) to switch to adult food? And when I do is it ok to just switch automatically or should I do it gradually as I would if I were changing foods completely?

| I would definitely encourage taking him for long walks or runs. Irregardless of what all of the ads say, they need exercise and a bored doggie does get into mischief. You also might try putting pineapple on the food to see if that does the job that the deter didn't. I also suggest giving your puppy good quality vitamins on a daily basis.

| WOW! This is what I love about this forum. Everytime I have questions about something Vinnie does I find the answers on here. Vinnie has been tearing up the corners on all the walls. I bought the bitter apple but he likes to lick it. And I can't believe how he finds places that I wouldn't have thought of. Anyways we are trying to give him longer walks and more playtime. Before he was stictly an inside dog but now he loves to go outside. at first he would just sit there but now he loves to explore. a few minutes ago we were outside walking and this big cat came out of nowhere. i was afraid that the cat would attack Vinnie so I picked him up and came inside. I'm not sure if this is with all yorkies but Vinnie tends to forget his size. He really needs a friend to play with. My sister has a big cat as well and Vinnie always wants to play with him (Monkeystuff) but Monkey took a swipe at Vinnie once and that was all to end playtime. |
