| Dental Vaccine Has anyone tried the dental vaccine yet ? And what did you think ? I tried it ...about 2 yrs ago when Zoey was 3 and the vet kept insisting she could use it...because we had teeth issues/couple of infected teeth that had to be removed and she gets build up alot . After she had the shot ...she came home and for the rest of the day and night had the shakes. When I called the vet she said it was probably "just a little side effect". The following year...we tried it again ( my vet said that maybe she would outgrow the reaction of shaking ) and it happened again. Now ....this past September ...she was due for the vaccine again and so far I am resisting giving it to her again. Any thoughts or other info would be appreciated. |

I wouldn't use the vaccine based on my vet's negative feelings. With your girl having reactions both times, I'd think very hard about doing it again because sometimes reactions get worse and not better - sometimes with deadly results. Good luck :-)

| Personally, I would not use it; and while my girl's vet says it does work somewhat, there are a lot of reactions and our pups are already overloaded with vaccines. IMO, it's not even close to being worth it for 99.99999% of dogs.

| Never heard of it. What are you vaccinating - never having to have teeth cleaning? Not sure how this would work? Isn't a vaccine suppose to stop you from getting a disease? Are plaque built up teeth a disease? What's next a vaccine like this for humans - LOL???!!!

| I wouldn't even consider it, as I only give the vaccines I feel they absolutely MUST have or is required by law. However, NONE of my senior dogs get vaccinated at all, for anything.

| I'm sure a few do, but that would pretty much be illegal because it is a service that the owner didn't consent to. They could have put it in small print on the consent form... Most would talk to you about it though.

| Trust your gut instincts. If you are uneasy about the reactions, then I would think twice before getting the vaccine again. I think they give the dogs too many shots (kids too). I only get the shot that are absolutely necessary. Same with my sons too. When they were younger I stood my ground with the pediatrician about all the extra shots that were not needed for school entrance. |

| I actually stopped using a vet that kept trying to push that dental shot on my kidz...Not sure if it was on here, or where, but I heard you still have to do dentals, and it's one of the most painful shots, w/one of the biggest needles, on the planet (info came from a vet tech)...I vote no on this one, for sure! |

| Tried the shot also had a bad reaction! Bella had a dental done 2 years ago, she didn't have to have any teeth removed but our dentist did recommend having the vaccine. I followed his recommendation and had it administered. She had a very lethargic reaction that scared me! She wouldn't get out of her bed and barely lifted her head up...she wouldn't eat, drink you name it. It took about 24 hours to wear off but it made me very nervous...I told him she will definitely never get the shot again! Not worth it...

| Dental vaccine So.....I was at the vet this week with Zoey to check her ear for an infection. The vet came in and also checked her weight ( 11 lbs. ) and checked her teeth and gums. She noticed some plaque build up near the gum line on the top tooth area. And...then began telling me she should have another tooth cleaning done soon and that Zoey should definately get the Dental Vaccine again to help with the teeth issues we have had with her. I was "on the fence" with what to do....and listening to her tell me the Pros vs. Cons. I told her that every time its given to her----she is lethargic for the day and really sore and swollen !! She responded telling me how it will help with the 3 bacteria that she is susceptible to with her teeth. She said it is no different than when we get a FLU shot and have side effects for one day after....but it was worth it in the long run. So.....I went ahead with the vaccine...and she ended up having the side effects for the day. The next day she was fine. |

| It reduces tartar causing (normal) bacteria in the mouth.
