Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Giving tablets in food. Is it okay to crush Poppy's tablet and mix it with some scrambled egg to get her to eat it? I cant think of another way to get her to eat it.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It depends on the medication. Most are ok to do that, but some shouldn't be broken apart because the coating is instrumental in the way it's delivered. When in doubt, call the vet. Of course, I just realized it's after-hours there. What med is it? Maybe we can pull up the drug insert and look.

| I'm guessing you mean a pill of some sort? I'm sure that would be fine, I don't see why it wouldn't be ok. I take a dab of p'nut butter on my finger & stick the pill in it. Kasha gobbles it up.

| I use a little drop of beechnut chicken baby food. I leave the pill whole and put it in the middle of the baby food and it goes right down. Works for all four of mine. Hope that helps.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I use the chicken flavored pill pockets made by the Greenies people. You can find them at any pet store. They really help us, because Darcy takes a lasik and 1/4 of a proin tablet 2x per day. You just drop the pill/pills in, pinch it closed, and she accepts it with no reservations. In a pinch, we have used a bit of cheese, or peanut butter, but she will run off and lick or eat around the pill. The pill pocket is the only thing we have found to make it work. Of course, then Baxter and Cooper eat a wellness cookie at this time as their "medicine" They do not like being excluded! |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Sorry I should have said what the pill was for, it is to treat the lung worm parasite that Poppy may have picked up from eating the slug. The pill comes in one size only which is for 10kg dogs, seen as Poppy weighs 2.3kg we have to give her only 1/4 of the pill so it needs to be broken up anyway. So do you think its okay?

| I always wrap the pill in a piece of american cheese. I press the cheese around the pill and they think they are getting a treat. |

| I use American cheese too, or cream cheese, peanut butter, pumpkin or even dog food (not kibble). I've even used bread balls when I have too.

I do this too (well, I use Gerber)! Nothing else worked to get Chase to take meds, not peanut butter, wet food, cheese, or chicken. The baby food works great | |

| Cream cheese seems to work the best for us. When one needs a pill I have to give a little to everyone. They all line up and think they are getting a treat. Plus the cream cheese hides an bitter task of a pill.

| I have a small mortar and pestle, grind the pills up to a fine powder and mix with peanut butter. Mine have always found a way to eat around the pill if I leave it whole. But they will take any med if ground up in the peanut butter.
