| How thin is your baby? I think Duncan is too thin. But I don't know if he's too thin. How do I get more meat on him?

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I started feeding mine frozen Raw about 2 1/2 months ago... And she loved it and is still on it.. We give her alittle less to maintain her weight now.

| I think you should ask a vet or nutritionist about his being to thin.you dont want to start fattening him up only to find out he is to heavy now. dogs are supposed to have a slight waistline I have noticed some yorkies seem not to but when you get the hair out of the way you see it

| I agree, I would talk to your vet also. If their weight patterns weren't a concern with your vet, I think he/she should be fine. When Yorkies are wet, they look so skinny and thin, but I think that it is normal. In fact, I believe that a Yorkie with too much weight could cause damage with their joints in their legs. They all have fragile bones, so need to maintain a healthy weight to avoid potential issues with their legs and hips. (:

| I'm a bit concerned about this too. My boy is a tiny "cupcake" Yorkie, he just never grew... I free feed his kibble, he's been eating a lot more, but still not putting on weight. I would talk to the vet or a nutritionist to make sure he is indeed under weight. I'm going to ask a few really knowledgable dog people in the next few weeks what they think, to make sure I don't over kill the food..

Don't get offended, but is it possible for your little one to have tape worms. this sounds exactly like my last foster cat who ended up having tapeworms once we treated for that he shot up like a rocket (well to 8 pounds but that's a good size on a cat)

| You should be able to easily feel your dog's ribs under one layer of fat. you should also be able to see his waist (chest is wider than waist). If he has more than that, he should lose weight, and if he has less than that, increase his calories either by a small (about 10%) increase in food. If he doesn't gain weight with small increases in food, time to see a vet to make sure things are OK medically.

| My Apple was always too thin, 'till I switched her to raw, and I was determined not to spay her, 'till she reached 5 lbs....She went from 4 1/2 lbs. to 5 1/2 lbs. in about a month or so...I had her on Stella & Chewies, and she was gaining too much weight (got up to 6 1/2 lbs.)...Now she's on Primal, and she's lost a bit and leveling off nicely @ 6 lbs....She looks great! |

| Mabel seems thin to me also. Is it normal to be able to feel their backbone? Last vet visit the vet said she was a good weight and seemed to be filling out quite nicely. But to me she seems skinny. It is true that they have tiny bone structure and do not need to have lots of extra weight. She eats all the time so i'm sure she's in good shape but she still looks skinny to me!

| I always thought my dog was a good healthy weight at around 4.5 lbs. Could always see his waist and feel his ribs. But, when he was sick the last time, he dropped down to 3.6 lbs and when I was talking to the specialist/nutritionist, she said she felt that he was an at ideal weight like that, even though I thought he looked too thin. She said she would rather they stay on the thinner side like that, because they have less stress to their joints and it will cause them a lot less problems when they are older. So, I agree with the previous posts: if you have concerns, you might want to talk to your vet about it first. |

| I think Bug is perfect. I can, by pressing lightly, feel her ribs through a layer of movable 'fat', by pressing a little firmer, feel her back bone, she is hefty and solid when I pick her up. She looks long and thin. She is long legged. She feels heavy, looks thin, feels very very solid. Baby is probably morbidly obese. She is much shorter with short, fat legs. She is built like football. I can barely feel her ribs and I'm pretty sure she was born without a spine. She has a slower metabolism and is downright sedentary It is a challenge trying to balance the two. I've recently tried doing their 'cookies' differently. Bug gets a whole one, Baby gets 1/4 of one. As soon as Baby figures out fractions, I'm screwed.

| George was too thin also but after his last worm tablet he put on a little extra weight, he's still thin especially since his last hair cut, it made his legs look long, but vet assures me he is an ideal weight, not a big eater so I couldn't get him to eat more anyway, but he has a nice layer over his ribs and when we have tummy tickles his tummy is slightly rounded, so I guess he must be OK

| I would have to see a picture but I like to see a dog thinner than fatter! A lot of people feel the need to fatten up their dog when they don't really need it. I like Jackson on the thinner side. In the winter, he was 16lbs, and now he's 15.1lbs approx. and at a perfect weight for his frame. See how you can see the little tuck where his waist is?
