My Skinny baby My Harley is 9 months old and weights 5.7lb. If one more person tells me that he is too skinny I'm going to loose it. I don't know what to do, he eats his food, I give him treats, nutri-cal etc. I'm hoping because I just got him fixed maybe he will plump up a bit more. The vet's assistant said I should have his stool checked. Now I'm all worried and feel like people are looking at me like I starve me baby. Is this something I should be worried about?? Or maybe that's just the way he is.. Any help would be appreciated...

5.7 pounds is a good weight , why would you like him to be bigger ? At his age , it is the weight that he is supposed to have . Bigger will probably start to be obese .

| If you know you are feeding him right I wouldn't worry. My cowboy is a darn STICK. he eats well it's just he's skinny. Personally I used to worry but now I base it on his waist to rib cage size. YES his waist is thin but his rib cage is small too... he is LONGGGGGGGG though. I always call him my little potato chip because he reminds me of the shape of a Pringles can

Samson is 8 months old and weighs 4.8 lbs. He looks a little thin (he's long too) but the vet said he is still a puppy and probably burns off all of the food he eats. (he eats a good amount everyday) The vet said he is fine. I'm guessing maybe be will fill out a little as he gets older. I think as long as your baby is eating and playing like a normal pup he's fine.

Alfie was really skinny at that age as well but now is filling out it , it took a while though but everyone kept saying how skinny he was dont let it bother you if you know he s eating well. They can take a liitle while to fill out.

I know how you feel. Just today someone told me my Tigger was too skinny. He's five months old and weighs 3.6 pounds. I'm sorry but I don't feed mine table scrappings and that's why a lot of dogs are little sausage rolls. I don't think your dog is too skinny at all. He's a puppy and they burn it off very easily. If you're feeding him well, and doing everything right, then just ignore them.

Why would anybody have the nerve to say something like that? Jig, my 20 month old male is 3.4 lbs right now. He's a little guy. I've been worried about him myself but nobody says anything. When I hold him and feel him, I can tell he's getting his nutrition by how well I can feel his bone structure. Does he have any padding or is it all bones? That kind of thing. As long as your little one is eating and you're giving supplements. I wouldn't worry. Also, 5.7 lbs sounds normal. Keep in mind that a standard Yorkie is considered to be within 3-7 lbs. Although as we all know they seem to come in a lot of shapes and sizes. I think that "standard" is for show dogs. Do what you and your vet feel is best for YOUR dog and not what other people think. Everyone thinks mine is a puppy because he's so small and just can't get over that I walk him with a harness and leash versus carrying him around. Dawn

Are his ribs and spine sticking out? If he doesn't feel boney then he is fine.

I used to get people telling me he was too thin and I needed to feed him more (which greatly annoyed me). I even asked the vet several years ago and I was told he was healthy 90% of dogs are obese and he isn't so that eased my mind so when told me he's too thin again they got the quote direct from the vet.

Just today a vet told me my Abbie is too skinny. She is little. She weighed in at 2.75 pounds and she was 3.4 a few months back. Different scales though so I can't be sure how much difference there is. The thing is, she's very long and she IS rather bony. I can feel every rib, her back, etc. BUT....she seems healthy and happy and playful, her coat looks good. But when she's done, she really crashes! That's it mom, I'm done! Should I worry? Please tell me it's all normal!
