| Acana wild praire dry food I just switched Max from Natural Balance to Acana, since he seemed to have lost interest in the Natural Balance. He LOVES the Acana!!!I am trying to ween him onto it by giving him some Natural Balance mixed with Acana, but,he picks right through it and finds the Acana, leaving mostly all the Natural Balance behind!!!!!Acana food is outstanding, but not as easy to get as some of the other foods around here. After I bought it I found another food that was sold in more stores by me,that seems to be pretty decent quality too. However I've never tried it,and I'm noy sure he'll switch, now that he seems to really love the Acana.Has anyone ever tried "Before Grain" made by Merrick foods?Do you think Acana is way better or only slightly?Should I switch to "Before Grain"since it's sold in more stores near me?Or stick with what I know he likes?

| Acana is AWESOME! It, along with Orijen and Go! Endurance, are probably the only kibbles I'd feed right now. Champion Foods is an awesome company. Jackson ate Merrick's Before Grain when he was younger, I think from 5 months old-7 months old or so. He did fine on it but never really enjoyed it... he got tired of it really fast and would refuse to eat some meals, but he's just really picky. I think either are great choices but I would definitely choose Acana over BG!

| Sometimes I like to give Max wet food,Acana does not have wet food.Do you think it would be ok to give Max "Before Grain" wet food, with the Acana dry food?I know your not supposed to switch foods, but, short of not giving him wet food, what else can I do?BTW,since I'm new to the Acana food, what other flavors would you reccomend I try next?Or,should I just stick with the Wild Praire, since I know he likes that?

| We are feeding Acana Grasslands right now and all three love it! I'm sure we will rotate the variety, because they do get bored! We are mixing in Tripett with their food. We have always used some sort of wet food, they will not eat dry! It smells terrible, but they LOVE it! I'm not sure about the Merrick, we haven't tried that one before.

| I am having trouble getting Acana Grasslands here on Cape Cod. My pet store said there was a shortage....due to demand? That just makes me want to try it more because people must really like it and are buying it up! Hopefully my store got it for me this time! p.s. thanks Britster!

| If you cannot find it at a store near you, but still really want to try it, there is always the internet. Of course, that usually involves shipping costs, but if you found a site with a free shipping deal (from a coupon code, a sale, or just a over x amount deal, etc.) it might be something to try. |

| If you switch to Acana, make sure you get bloodwork done about six months later. We have had several Maltese on another forum I belong to have elevated kidney values with Acana. Not saying it's a bad food, it just may not be appropriate for all dogs. |

| IMO--Acana is fantastic!! I tried BG before I knew about Acana and it gave my Snickers the runs. Another good canned food is Wellness 95% meat...Wellness 95% Chicken Good luck!!! Snick & Viv

| Is it only Acana or other high-protein, grain free kibbles? I'm curious what would make Acana different. |

Just a heads up to make sure you get bloodwork done just in case your dog happens to be one of the ones who can't eat it.

BTW, the all Maltese that had trouble were very well bred from show breeders with no underlying health issues. We also have Maltese who have had no problem with Acana. We had a few Maltese who had the same problem with Evo. Not only elevated kidney values, but several with high triglycerides and cholesterol. Of course, EVo has a very high fat content so that is no surprise. As I said, just a heads up to be aware that some toy breeds have had a problem with it.
