| Need some advice Ok, so I have to make Roxie an appt. for her annual shots, rabies, heartworm testing , etc. I called a few places to get prices, etc. and found this one place that I am really interested in, its called North Star Vet clinic, anyways, they arent open on Saturdays, which is the only day I can take Roxie for shots, etc. But the vet tech said another option is to drop her off that morning(its right on my way to work) and then pick her up after work. They will walk her and feed her for me while I am at work, and she said the exam for her will actually be cheaper than if I was there with her the whole time. Ok, so any other vet I have taken former dogs to, I have been there with them. So what do you guys think about me dropping her off and picking her up after work? The only thing that seems good about it is that she gets a day out of the house..lol..Please I need honest opinions on this one. Thanks! |

| I did that with my parrot. Seems to be common and saves you money as they do it at their convenience.

| It really depends on your dogs personality. If she is use to being crated and is comfortable around strange people then she might do okay. I do not recommend having all shots done at the same time. The rabies shot should be done stand alone several weeks before or after the regular vaccinations. I don't know what shots your dog has had or if you have researched vaccinations but if you have not you might want to think about what shots she really needs. Some vets will over vaccinate.

| I don't think there is a problem with it, but it wouldn't be something I'd do. There are tests where they need to stay for a few hours or whatever and that's fine, but this would be an annual visit. No appt. means no meeting with the vet and I would not like that at all. Everything would likely go through the tech and you wouldn't be talking to the doctor. Totally up to you. I know for me, I always have something(s) to talk to the vet about and would get really irritated sending my questions through a tech. So I think it's an individual thing. Also, if it's a new place and you've never met the vet, it's probably best to do the first visit while you are there. Wouldn't want to leave your baby there when you don't even know if you are comfortable with them or not... BTW, rabies and DHPP are best given on different days.

| We offer that at the clinic I work at(and worked at previously)--to me it's a win-win situation. At ours, we walk boarders/drop offs at least every 2 hours--and if the Vet has a concern, she will personally call the owner to talk about it. And if you are worried about vaccine allergies-she is there being monitored, and if she shows any reaction-treatment will be done immediately. Good luck with your decision. |

| Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I actually have decided on another vet , and the only reason is because I havent met either vet, and I want that opportunity to see how she reacts with my dog. I mean they sound nice on the phone and the place looks great, but I want that one on one time with the actual vet, I might would have considered it more if I had met her previously, I hope that does not sound too corny..lol..But Roxie is my baby..lol... |
