Aggression My yorkie just turned 3 yesterday, but it seems that since summer she has become extremely aggressive when other dogs are around. I can no longer take her to the dog park because if a dog tries to approach her, she will jump and bite at them. The same thing happens with dogs we live by that she has known since birth. She also started taking one of her toys and shaking it and growling and slamming it into the ground (this is her favorite toy too...that she humps like a manic and takes to bed with her). She's been doing that since almost the beginning of this year. I don't know where any of this is coming from and it's gotten to the point that I need to figure something out because either she will get hurt when she tries to bite another dog or the other dog will get hurt. Other than this, she is the most loving playful dog ever. She will only try to bite me if she has something she shouldn't have and I take it away. I've read that sudden aggression could be a medical issue, but she just seems so playful to have anything going on with her. Does anyone have any ideas or have a dog doing the same thing? I'm at my wits end! Thanks! Hannah

I also forgot to mention that when a car drives by she's starting barking real mean and chasing after them as well. She'll also bark at people or cars walking by my place, but I've started squirting her with a water bottle and that has tamed that part of it.

My little one barks really mean at dogs if they come near our house. I can still take him out around other dogs and he is OK - as long as they aren't in his yard or in front of his house. He's always been that way, though. I assumed it was poor training on my part. I have also heard sudden personality changes like that can be related to a medical problem. You might want to give your vet a call and see if they think you should bring her in. Hope your little one feels better soon!

One of my Yorkies, Coco, is similar to this. Whenever we are outside in the front or back yard and he sees anyone passing by he growls and barks and pursues it until he gets close enough for his comfort to keep barking. If the people try to come close and pet him, that's when he gets shy or scared. Both of my Yorkies are not the friendliest with strangers and can be quite shy, especially with kids. They both do this but Coco is worse than Bacci. They aren't fixed but will be soon. They are also in puppy training classes with bigger dogs and don't seem to like to play with them too much. They just hide under the stools. They can be playful with our neighbor puppy who is about their size but not until after they bark at him for a while. Is this just their personality or can it be related to something else and fixed? They are playful and happy with us and are very well cared for and extremely loved. Have been since they were born.

Hello to all. As far as I know, mostly by reading since Roxy is my first yorkie ever, yorkies have a very strong personality as all terriers do. But their behavior mostly depends on how you raise them. I adopted Roxy for my two little girls when she was 10 weeks old, so I had to make her love them. So long they are best pals, but from time to time I have to remind Roxy to be kind to them, since she tends to play biting their arms and clothing. With me; that is a very different story. She respects me so much, that I can hardly believe it. Maybe the fact that I am 6 ft tall and over 200 pounds helps me a little. I remember exposing her to other people and puppies since very little, so she loves to be around them. I guess that sometimes, when they are rised with adult people only, they become less social with other pople and dogs as they do not get in touch with their inner puppy too often. I would like this opportunity to thank you all for having such a wonderful forum. You rock!!!!!

When I got my little one she never barked( she was about 9 months old) and now she barks at almost everything Door bell, other dogs, growls at people walking by when I take her for a walk. I can't even take her to petsmart anymore because all she does is bark and it's a high pitched bark too! This coming up week i signed her up for beginners education at petsmart and I have no idea what I should do when she gets all crazy and starts barking at other dogs? any suggestions

| Is she spayed? You might want to talk to your vet about that.
