| microchip question I finally got Snoopy microchipped. They gave me a tag for his collar with his chip #, and the phone # to call if he was ever found. I'm debating whether to put it on his collar. What if he's stolen, or "found" by someone who decides to keep him? Would the fact that he's chipped deter someone from ever getting vet care, since the vet would discover that the dog isn't theirs? He does have tags with our name and number on it. And if anyone is considering getting their dog chipped, but isn't going to have him put under for something else--Snoopy didn't even whimper when it was done.

| I thought about getting mine chipped, but decided not too. Both have tags on all the time, just in case they get separated. I am with them all the time. The vet also helped me decide not too because of their size and the size of the needle! I may be wrong, but with all the thefts of our yorkies, I didn't think someone who stole my baby would bring her back. Both have identity tags anyways. |

| Piper is getting spayed Monday and I am trying to decide on the chip. We have one in our dane, but she is a big dog that could bust out of the yard anytime if she really tried. Piper is never out of our site and she only weighs 4 pounds. Anyway, I have Lucy's information in my purse.

| I had Bentley chipped when he got neutered and also my Boxer. For me it is extra protection in case of theft or lost. |

| My experience is that no vet I've ever been to has scanned for a chip unless I ask them too. It is true that if someone "finds" your dog and keeps it, they most likely won't vet it unless absolutely necessary bc of fear that it may be found out they are not the true owner. But like i said, most vets, at least where I am, won't scan unless asked, they say it's an invasion of privacy. As far as the tag, i don't keep it on Uni's collar along with her other tags. There was a rash of dog nappings in Riverside county a few years ago, and the thieves would try to find a micro chip, and if they did, dug it out of the dog!

| I know at one time several years ago there were news stories of thieves cutting off a dogs ear because there was ID on the ear. (I think these were thieves who probably sold the dogs to labs for testing purposes UGH!)

| Of course the final decision is yours, but I am happy Uni is chipped. In the rare chance that she does get out and an honest person finds her, it would be easier for her to get back home to me. For instance, I am a yorkie lover, if I found one, i would want them to be reunited with their family. I would see if they had a chip. Not everyone out there is bad. You just have to take the good with the bad just like with everything else. But yeah, that needle is huge....

Agree 100%. There was someone here just the other day who had her pup returned to her because he was chipped and found by someone who wanted him to find his home.
