| How do so many of you get your baby to eat string beans?? I have offered them several times, but Prince will have no part of them. Last night he took one and when he realized what it was, he spit it out. I only buy fresh, organic and steam them without seasoning. What's your secret?????

| Maybe he just doesn't like beans....I cut them up (kibble sized) for Dudley. Dudley eats most veggies, BUT NOT CARROTS

| Hot Rod has always loved green beans. I do give him canned from time to time, less sodium kind. He just gobbles them up.

| Put a bit of seasoning in them -- I'm from the south and we use bacon :-), but only a small amount 'cause we all know about bacon . Or you can use a bit of butter or margerine. THEN.... get yourself a bowl of green beans and sit down somewhere that the furbutts are allowed i.e. the couch and start to eat them yourself like it is the best thing that you have ever eaten. I mean really smack them up. I bet it won't take very long for your little guy to show some interest. I wouldn't let him have any right away, just make him "watch" you eat all of the good stuff. My critters couldn't resist trying something that I found so tasty -- I am one who firmly believes that good dog food = good people food. I do feed my guys a super premium dry kibble, but they are allowed to have tidbits of anything that I eat that is safe for them. If that doesn't work, then try making him work for the "treat". That has also worked for me -- what a great way to fake them into thinking that something is yummy. Last edited by chattiesmom; 09-07-2010 at 09:24 AM. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I use frozen green beans. I take them out and let them sit for just about a minute- so they are still mostly frozen. I think the cold helped with the novelty, but now they paw on the freezer door when they want their treats.

| Ha! I've done the 'work for the treat' too. Works like a charm! Till they wise up. I use frozen cut green beans, and run them through the blender to get anywhere from 1/8 in or smaller chunks to liquefied. I thaw them out a bit in warm water first. The freezing process breaks down some of the cell structure so they're not as tough to chew as fresh, but I don't cook them either. I soak 3 cups of kibble in 1-2 cups boiling water till the water is absorbed. Then I add a bit of canned for flavor, and about a cup of the blended string beans, and mix well. (sometimes I do it with carrots and/or broccoli too). Scoop out their rations, add supplements... and if they're being picky, sprinkle with a bit of Parmesan cheese. I get 2 meals/day X 3 dogs for 2-3 days. Refrigerate any leftovers. When served again, I add almost 1/4 cp of boiling water to each serving to warm it up. We had apples for a treat one day and it was Peek's first time with apples. He's 13.5 years old, and really didn't like the consistency. He spit out pieces 5-6 times as the other 3 gobbled them up, but he was so jealous he finally started eating it. Too funny. Now he likes them. Plus Mommie was pigging out too! Never had loose stools with them....

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Bridget just LOVES green beans - but won't eat them frozen or canned - I have to buy fresh and blanch them - stick them in ice water and get them good and cold. She like a little crunch to them. I put them in her Kong with a little apple topped with just a tiny bit of Greek yogurt when I leave for work in the morning....she is almost as excited for me to leave in the morning as she is when I return in the afternoon.

| loves veggies Winston loves carrots and beans. I wash the bean, sometimes steam them, then put them in a zip lock in the freeger. Instead of treats he gets veggies and he loves them. Don't even think about opening the freezer door without giving him some green beans. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What about sprinkling a little Parmesan cheese on the bean? Many doggies love the smell and taste of Parm.

| Great ideas everyone! Thank you. I plan to try them all and see what works for us. For those of you who use parm cheese on their string beans, does your baby not lick it off? Regarding the bacon, do you fry the bacon first, then saute the beans in a tiny bit of the drippings? (I'm getting hungry!!) Thank you again...I'll let you know our progress.

| Is edamame ok to give? i know it's a soy bean, and we're not supposed to give soy right? Uni only sometimes eats regular green beans. I gave some edamame once and she loved it, then I remembered it's soy. She didn't seem any itchier afterwards though.

| I have noticed, in my pet sitting business, if pups are used to a diet with corn and fillers and stuff, they don't seem to like green beans...If they are used to raw, or, at the very least, grain free kibble, they seem to like veges...This is just an observation, on my part w/my client's pups...My guys fight over green beans, apple slices, and blueberries...I don't give carrots, because they really have more sugar in them, than I would like them to have...The blueberries serve the same purpose for eyesite, antioxidants and such... |
